Position Summary
The Resident Advisor (RA) serves as a mentor, supervisor, and role model within the boarding community. RAs are responsible for helping cultivate a safe, supportive, respectful, and growth-oriented residential environment for students.
The RA supports students socially, emotionally, spiritually, and behaviorally while helping maintain dorm routines, expectations, and community standards. This role requires strong relational skills, emotional maturity, professionalism, consistency, and the ability to balance care with accountability.
Primary Responsibilities
Student Supervision & Care
Supervise students within the dormitory during assigned duty hours
Build positive relationships with boarding students
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and healthy dorm culture
Support students’ emotional, social, and spiritual well-being
Assist students in adjusting to boarding life and community expectations
Provide appropriate guidance, encouragement, and mentorship
Community Standards & Accountability
Enforce boarding policies and expectations consistently and respectfully
Monitor student attendance, curfew, study hall, quiet hours, and dorm routines
Support accountability regarding devices, room cleanliness, and behavior expectations
Address minor disciplinary concerns and refer major concerns to Residential Life leadership
Promote habits of responsibility, integrity, self-discipline, and respect
Communication & Collaboration
Communicate professionally with Residential Life leadership regarding student concerns
Maintain timely and accurate documentation when needed
Work collaboratively with fellow RAs, faculty, counselors, and administrators
Participate in Residential Life meetings, training sessions, and professional development
Safety & Crisis Response
Help ensure student safety and well-being within the dormitory
Respond appropriately to emergencies, student illness, emotional concerns, and behavioral incidents
Follow school emergency procedures and reporting protocols
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality
Dorm Operations
Assist with dorm check-ins/check-outs, room checks, and other residential procedures
Help maintain a clean, orderly, and safe dorm environment
Support boarding events, activities, and community-building initiatives
Assist with supervision during evenings, weekends, and designated school activities as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience working with adolescents in educational, residential, ministry, counseling, or mentoring settings preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
Demonstrated emotional maturity, professionalism, and integrity
Ability to maintain appropriate authority while building positive relationships with students
Flexibility, reliability, and strong organizational skills
Alignment with the school’s mission and values
