Postdoctoral Fellowships, Mathematical Machine Learning (₩78M or ₩60M a year) — POSTECH (Pohang)

POSTECH’s mathematics department is recruiting postdoctoral fellows into its Center for Mathematical Machine Learning and Applications. The call says in as many words that it welcomes mathematicians of any nationality who are fluent in English, and it publishes the salary, which academic posts in Korea rarely do.

■ Duties
- Research on the mathematical foundations of machine learning, including modelling, partial differential equations, geometry and statistics, within one of the centre’s three research groups.

■ Who can apply
- A PhD in mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics, either held or about to be completed. Fluent English is required and no Korean is mentioned.

■ Terms
- Two tracks. The Fellow post pays 78,000,000 won a year and runs 2 years plus 2 more on satisfactory performance. The Researcher post pays 60,000,000 won a year and runs 2 years plus 1. Both figures include the employer’s social insurance and severance contributions, and both come with 8,000,000 won a year of research funds.
