How to Use Culture Gift Cards (문화상품권) in Korea

Culture Gift Cards (문화상품권) are one of Korea's most popular gift vouchers. Won one in a Waegook lucky draw, or picked some up yourself? Here's how to use them.

What they are

A Culture Gift Card is a prepaid voucher you can spend like cash at around 20,000 places across Korea — books, movies, dining, games and more. Each paper card has a set value (for example ₩10,000) and a hidden PIN on the back.

Where foreigners can use them

• CGV, Megabox or Lotte Cinema — movie tickets and snacks
• Kyobo Bookstore — Korea's biggest bookstore (English books too)
• Google Play — top up games and apps
• Everland and Seoul Land — theme parks
• Gong Cha — bubble tea
• Tom N Toms — coffee
• KFC — fast food
• Outback, VIPS or Ashley — steak and buffet restaurants
• ABC Mart — shoes and sneakers

How to use one

In a store: hand the card to the cashier at the counter. Don't scratch the PIN — once the PIN is exposed, the card can only be used online.

Online: scratch off the PIN on the back and register it at https://www.cultureland.co.kr or charge it to a service like Kyobo, Aladin or Yes24 and pay from there.

Good to know

• Acceptance is set per branch, so it isn't guaranteed everywhere. Check the Culture Land app for a specific store before you go.
• A card is valid for 5 years from its issue date.
• Some shops (for example Olive Young) only take it after converting to a gift card first, and online conversions can carry a small fee — treat those as "maybe", not guaranteed.
