Renting a home? You can check which foreigners are registered there

Before or while renting, you can ask for a foreign resident confirmation (외국인체류확인서). It shows part of the names of foreigners who registered a home as their address, and the dates they moved.

Who can ask for it

• The owner or their household members.
• A tenant or their household members.
• A person who has signed a sale contract or a lease for the home.
• Someone acting for these people, with their authorisation.

How to get it

• In person only, at an immigration office or a community centre (주민센터). It is processed within 1 day.
• Bring your ID and proof that you have a right to ask, such as your lease contract.
• Fee: 300 won to view, 400 or 500 won for a printed copy.

What it does not tell you
It does not show who owns the home or whether there are loans on it. For that, check the property's official ownership record (등기부등본) before paying any deposit.
