About the E-1 visa
Teaching or research at a Korean university.
Who it is for
- Teaching faculty at a junior college or above The main route: a full-time teaching post, assistant professor or above, at an institution covered by the Higher Education Act.
- Research professor in a specialised field A research professorship at a university or a research institute attached to one.
- High-level science and technology researcher: doctorate A doctorate in a science or engineering field, working at a junior college or above, a government-funded institute, a national or public laboratory, or a corporate research institute, with a ministry...
- High-level researcher: master's with R&D experience A master's degree or higher in a science or engineering field, together with research and development experience in that field, plus a ministry employment recommendation.
What the check asks
The check asks 6 questions, for example: Where are you applying from, Do you have an appointment at a Korean institution, What post would you hold, What is your highest degree. Your answers are never stored.
Documents a result can list
The result lists the documents for your route. Depending on your answers, they include:
- Application form, passport and a standard photo
- Employment contract or confirmation of appointment
- Degree certificate
- The institution's business registration certificate, and research institute documents
- Application form (No. 34), passport, one standard photo, and the fee
- Employment contract (original and copy), or an appointment-confirmation letter
- Career certificate with your degree certificate attached
- The institution's establishment documents
- Workplace change/addition report (annex No. 38-3), passport and residence card, and the fee
- The new workplace's business registration
