About the E-2 visa
Conversational foreign-language instruction at approved institutions.
Who it is for
- Native-language country, degree from there The main route: a national of a country where the language is native, holding a bachelor's degree or higher from a university in that country.
- Schooled abroad, degree earned in Korea A special allowance: if you finished high school or a junior college in the native-language country and then took a bachelor's degree or higher in Korea, you qualify.
- Official-language country, with a teaching qualification For languages other than English, Chinese and Japanese: nationals of a country where the language is official qualify with a recognised teaching qualification or a related degree, subject to a salary...
- E-2-2 · Assistant teacher through an education office Native-speaker assistant teachers recruited by the Ministry of Education or a provincial office of education for primary and secondary schools.
- E-2-2 · Government-invited scholarship teacher (TaLK) The TaLK route accepts two or more years of university rather than a completed degree, for nationals of countries where English is native.
- Korea–India agreement assistant teacher Indian nationals holding a bachelor's degree or higher and a teaching certificate majoring in English.
- Chinese assistant teacher with TCSOL Chinese nationals with a degree from a Chinese university and the teaching certificate issued by the national Chinese language office.
- TESOL-qualified spouse of a professional or STEM postgraduate Even without a background in an anglophone country: the spouse of a professional or of a master's/doctoral student in a STEM field may teach English with TESOL and a bachelor's degree.
What the check asks
The check asks 8 questions, for example: Where are you applying from, Do you have a teaching offer from an eligible institution, What is your relationship to the language you would teach, What is your education in that country. Your answers are never stored.
Documents a result can list
The result lists the documents for your route. Depending on your answers, they include:
- Application form, passport and a standard photo
- Employment contract
- Degree certificate
- National criminal record certificate
- Medical check for employment
- The employer's business registration certificate
- Application form (No. 34), passport (original), one standard photo, and the fee
- The employer's VAT-act business registration certificate
- Proof of where you live
- Report form (No. 34), passport and residence card
