Faculty Openings, Second Round 2026 (One Post Open to Non-Korean Applicants Only) — Seoul National University (Seoul)

Seoul National University has its second round of faculty recruitment for 2026 open across many colleges at once, with separate notices and separate closing dates. Several of the notices are published in English. One post stands out for readers of this board: the university states it is open to non-Korean applicants only.

■ The post reserved for non-Korean applicants
- SNU College is recruiting in Global Korean Studies, jointly with the Department of International Studies at the Graduate School of International Studies. The notice states, in its own words, that this is for non-Korean applicants only and that dual nationality is not recognised. Whoever is appointed is also required to take part in the Division of Open Major for International Students. Applications for this round close 30 September 2026 at 14:00.
- The same SNU College notice carries two more posts: Korean as a Second Language, covering acquisition and education, jointly with the College of Humanities; and Interdisciplinary Education in Health Science and Technology, jointly with the College of Medicine, which requires a medical licence and a specialist certification.

■ Other colleges open in this round
- Graduate School of International Studies: two posts, one in Europe covering economics, management and international politics, and one in international development. The notice requires applicants to be able to lecture in English. Closes 8 October 2026 at 10:00.
- College of Natural Sciences: nine posts, including all areas in statistics, virology, microbiology, and all areas in biological sciences including developmental biology. Closes 12 October 2026 at 17:00. Physics and astronomy will be announced separately.
- College of Humanities: seven posts, covering English literature with cultural studies or gender and sexuality studies, Hispanic language and literature with Latin American literature, two in linguistics, two in Korean history, and one in Western history. Closes 29 September 2026 at 10:00.
- Further rounds were open at the same time in medicine, pharmacy, public health, dentistry, nursing, agriculture and life sciences, and others. The portal lists each with its own window.

■ What helps a foreign applicant here
- The College of Humanities notice says research written in a language other than English needs a Korean or English summary, so work published in English is accepted as it stands.
- The College of Natural Sciences notice asks for a CV in English, says documents in a language other than English need a notarised English translation, and states the university provides a set amount towards relocation costs for a new appointment.
- The SNU College notice says documents issued in a language other than Korean or English need a notarised translation.
- The Graduate School of International Studies accepts a verification letter for an overseas degree.

■ Who can apply
- A doctorate. For SNU College and the College of Humanities, research published since 1 October 2023 totalling between 200 and 400 points on the university's scale. The College of Humanities does not accept candidates who have not yet been awarded the degree.

- Online through the university's faculty recruitment portal, where each college's notice and its attached announcement can be opened. Check the individual notice for your field, because the closing dates differ.
