Postdoctoral Researcher, Digital Health for Brain Disease (₩90M a Year, Foreign Researchers in Korea Welcome) — KAIST (Daejeon)

KAIST is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher under the InnoCORE programme, working on multimodal models for diagnosing and managing neurodegenerative disease. The pay is published, and the notice has a section written specifically for foreign applicants.

■ Duties
- Research on multimodal models for diagnosing neurodegenerative disease and intervening in it: eye monitoring, digital markers for dementia, at-home and wearable sensors, embedding modules, and long-term calibration tuned to the individual.

■ Who can apply
- A PhD, normally within five years, although the notice says the programme committee may appoint someone outstanding as an exception. There is no age or gender restriction. A Korean military-service clause appears, which applies to Korean male citizens and not to foreign applicants.

■ What the notice says about foreign applicants
- It states that a foreign applicant must meet the requirements to apply for an E-3 research visa.
- Under its preferences it counts as overseas talent anyone holding foreign nationality, whether or not they have been working abroad, and it says plainly that foreign researchers already living in Korea can be included. That is unusual, because programmes of this kind often only target people being brought in from abroad.
- It also counts researchers returning from overseas institutions, and holders of a Korean PhD who spent a substantial period, for example a year or more, at an overseas institution during the doctorate.

■ Terms
- 90,000,000 won a year in total personnel cost, which the notice says includes the four major social insurances and the employer's statutory contributions. The first contract runs to the end of the year and can be extended a year at a time, up to 2030. If the project it sits under finishes early, the contract may be shortened or adjusted.
