What can I study?
- Korean Cultural Studies
Published by Academy of Korean Studies. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.
What do I need?
- Application form, online at studyinkorea.go.kr Apply
- Personal statement on AKS's form (Attachment 2), in English or Korean
- Research plan on AKS's form (Attachment 3), in English or Korean
- Graduation certificate, or expected graduation certificate, for every previous degree
- Official transcripts for every previous degree
- English score report: TOEFL, IELTS or TEPS, unless you are exempt
- Proof of your nationality
- Application fee, paid online
- One letter of recommendation on AKS's form (Attachment 4), emailed by your recommender to admission_intl@aks.ac.kr
- Certificate of family relations or birth certificate, sent by post after you are selected
- Health check results from a public health center or hospital, sent by post after you are selected. Dormitory residents add a chest X-ray
THE RECOMMENDATION HAS ITS OWN DEADLINE: 17:00 on 25 September for spring. It must come from your recommender's own email, ideally a professor at your university. A work supervisor who is not an academic or an expert in the field is not accepted.
IF YOU ARE ADMITTED, THE REST GOES BY POST, by 17:00 on 8 January 2027 for spring: original degree certificates and transcripts with an apostille or consular verification, a family relations or birth certificate, a bank balance certificate and a health check. Dormitory residents add a chest X-ray.
THE BANK BALANCE IS 15,840,000 WON, or 6,240,000 if you hold AKS's Government Grant, in your name or an immediate family member's, issued within 30 days. A family member's account also needs AKS's sponsorship letter and a family relations certificate. AKS's FAQ still says 9,500,000; this is the Spring 2027 guide's figure.
A scholarship from another body that pays your tuition and living costs can replace the bank certificate, with its confirmation letter.
The fee is 50,000 won or 50 USD and is not refunded once paid.
The form, statement, research plan, degree papers, language score, nationality proof, fee and recommendation are compulsory: missing one disqualifies you.
Documents in any other language must be translated into Korean or English and notarised.
