What can I study?

Published by Chungnam National University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.

What do I need?

• Application form; study plan (Form 1 or free form); self-introduction (Form 2); recommendation (Form 3 or free form; not for integrated route 2)
• Bachelor's graduation (or expected) certificate and transcript; PhD: master's degree certificate and transcript; integrated route 2: master's enrolment certificate and transcript
• Degree verification: apostille, consular confirmation or China's CDGDC or CHSI report, issued within 6 months of the deadline, due 20 November 2026 (Korean degrees exempt)
• Language proof (or the TOPIK 108th ticket); family relation and nationality papers; passport copy; ARC copy if you have one; financial papers
• Research work if any; arts applicants send photos of their work; Design applicants a portfolio of up to 10 pages

THE BANK BALANCE IS 16,000,000 WON: a Korean or overseas bank certificate in your own name, frozen until 30 March 2027, or issued within the application period if not frozen. ARC holders: a Korean bank, own name only.

Parent-sponsored: Form 5, the parent's employment or business certificate and the parent's 16,000,000 won certificate (same freeze date).

Supervisor-sponsored: Form 5-1, the professor's employment certificate, Form 6 (scholarship confirmation) and a project budget proof; if the yearly total is 16,000,000 won or less, add a bank certificate in your or your parents' name.

Application fee 60,000 won or USD 50, online fee included; a partial refund only after an accepted force-majeure report. Entrance fee 181,000 won with the first semester only.

Tuition is paid 5 to 8 January 2027 (bill from 4 January, 10:00) at a Hana or Woori Bank counter (09:00 to 16:00), or into your own virtual account from any Korean bank. Final amounts are announced later.

From abroad: transfer to the CNU account (details sent later) at KRW 1,400 = USD 1, plus USD 100 for bank fees on both sides; any overpayment is refunded. Certificate of admission January to February 2027.

Dormitory: hall 2, two-person room. Fall 2026 (2026-2) cost 766,700 won upkeep plus a meal plan, 1,380,780 to 1,503,020 in total; 2027 fees are not posted. Residents listed 19 January 2027; payment 18 to 19 March 2027, after arrival.

Dormitory residents must hand in the required papers (a TB certificate and so on) before moving in, or they cannot move in. Upkeep and meals cannot be paid separately.

All-schooling-abroad applicants (one parent foreign) add their entry and exit record; if it cannot be issued, every school certificate from primary school to university showing the study periods.

Expected graduates apply with an expected-graduation certificate and file the final degree verification after graduating; without it the admission is cancelled.

All requirements

• Both parents foreign nationals, or a foreigner who completed all schooling equal to Korean primary, secondary and university education abroad. Dual nationals holding Korean nationality cannot apply
• Master's and integrated route 1: a bachelor's, or one by end of February 2027. PhD: a master's, or one by end of February 2027. Integrated route 2: CNU master's students in semester 2 or 3 with 15 or more major credits
• LANGUAGE, most departments, one of: TOPIK 4; TOEFL iBT 71 (3.5), New TEPS 327, TOEIC 700 or IELTS 5.5; the language confirmation (Form 4); or nationality of a country where English is a mother tongue or official language
• English-native or official-language nationals may apply without a language score; the guide lists for them the verified degree papers and a high school transcript or diploma, and says to file either one
• Public Administration, Political Science and Diplomacy, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting and Global Cultural Contents: TOPIK 4 or Form 4 only (no English route)
• English Language and Literature needs BOTH: TOPIK 3 or Form 4, AND TOEFL iBT 71 (3.5), New TEPS 327, TOEIC 700 or IELTS 5.5 (English-native or official-language nationals skip the English test)
• Form 4 admits must reach TOPIK 4 or TOEFL iBT 71 (3.5), New TEPS 327, TOEIC 700 or IELTS 5.5 before submitting the thesis. Scores with no printed expiry count only if taken from 21 November 2024
• Major classes are taught in Korean; ask the department for details. No department is named as English-taught
• Selection: documents for most departments (a phone or video interview is possible), an interview for a listed set; missing an interview means a fail. Pass mark: an average of 60 out of 100 from 2 evaluators
• Not recruiting: master's in Polymer Engineering, Applied Organic Materials Engineering and National Public Policy. Master's only: National Security, Livestock Environment, Music, Orchestral Instruments, Bio-big Data. No PhD in German
• MAJORS CHANGED ON 18 SEPTEMBER 2026 (a notice newer than the guide): Dairy Science, Sport Science and Architectural Engineering have new majors; the lists here follow the notice
• Medical Science is planned to run at the Sejong campus from March 2027, possibly with classes in both directions between Sejong and Boun campuses; the start may be postponed
• TOPIK 108th sitting takers may apply with the admission ticket and must send the score by 10 December 2026, 18:00
• Apply to ONE unit only: two applications in this round disqualify you. Once submitted, the application cannot be cancelled and the department or major cannot be changed
• The certificate of admission can be refused if the original degree verification or bank certificate is missing, or if you studied in or finished a master's or PhD at CNU or another Korean school and enter again
• For the visa, the original degree verification must be issued within 6 months of the visa application, and the bank certificate must be an original; each country's embassy may ask for more
