A scholarship below can remove the tuition line.
What can I study?
- Global Culture Contents (M, D, I; humanities band)
- Marine Biomedical Science (M, D; natural sciences band)
Published by Hanseo University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.
What do I need?
- Application form; two photos 3 x 4 cm (name on the back); passport copies of you and your parents (or parents' ID); alien registration card copy if you live in Korea
- Study plan (연수계획서) in Korean or English; PhD applicants: the PhD course recommendation letter (school form). The privacy consent is given online
- Bachelor's (master's and integrated) or bachelor's and master's (PhD) degree certificates and transcripts, notarised. Not notarised if earned in Korea. Transfer graduates file the papers from before and after the transfer
- Degrees abroad (one, by the school's country): an apostille original; a consular confirmation where there is no apostille; for China, as printed "중국교육부 운영 학력·학위인증센터 발행 입증 서류"
- Family relationship certificate and birth certificate, notarised; papers for divorce, remarriage, death, disappearance or Korean nationality. Chinese nationals, as printed: "중국 국적자는 호구부 제출(공증번역본)"
- Financial proof (one): your bank certificate; or a parent's bank certificate, employment or business papers and property tax certificate (both notarised) and the guarantee form; or a full-time Hanseo professor's guarantee
- A professor's guarantee comes with the professor's employment certificate, property tax certificate and the guarantee form (재정보증동의서)
- Language proof (one) and the pledge (서약서) if you have no TOPIK 3; health certificate (tuberculosis test): applicants living abroad file results issued within 3 months
THE BANK BALANCE IS 16,000,000 WON OR MORE (원화 ₩16,000,000 이상), issued within 1 month of applying. No notarisation is needed, though the school may ask for it. Foreigners living in Korea with an alien registration card file a Korean bank certificate in their own name only.
Chinese bank certificates (English guide: "Chinese bank statements"), as printed: "중국은행 발급 잔고증명서는 유효기간(예금동결기간)이 최소 30일 이상 남아 있어야 함" (at least 30 days of frozen period left).
The English guide alone adds, as printed: "Notarization: Not required (Apostille mandatory for Bangladeshi banks)". The Korean guide, which prevails, does not print this line.
Application fee: 50,000 won for a master's; 70,000 won for a PhD or integrated course. No refund after the period. The depositor name must be your name plus the last 4 digits of your phone.
Entrance fee 700,000 won, on its own line beside tuition in every band (Fall 2026 guide). International students who graduated from Hanseo do not pay it.
Expected graduates file the final certificate and transcript at least 7 days before the semester starts, or the admission is cancelled.
A paper not filed within the submission period means a fail. False papers, or finances that cannot be checked, can cancel the admission.
Transcripts should give the overall average on a 100-point scale. If a foreign university certificate shows only a GPA, Hanseo converts it by its own standard (Korean guide p.5, common notes).
Foreign degrees the school cannot recognise (a different system, or below the standard) can mean a fail. Papers and admission rules can change with the Ministry of Justice stay rules (Korean guide p.5 and p.17).
Submitted papers are not returned. The school may ask for more papers, and you must help it check your degrees.
Getting the D-2 student visa is your own responsibility: without it the admission is cancelled or you are expelled. No change to another visa status is allowed while you study.
Living in Korea: after the admission letter, finish the change to a D-2 visa at Hanseo's Language Education Institute at least 7 days before entry (+82-41-660-1303). Visa questions: +82-41-660-1154, rrzy@hanseo.ac.kr.
The guide prints no dormitory fee. The school's dormitory notices for the 2026 second semester, open to all enrolled students: Seosan 490,000 to 870,000 won, Taean 540,000 to 830,000 won by room.

All requirements
- ENGLISH TRACK: you are selected by an official English score, and 50% or more of the credits needed to graduate are taught in English (guide note). The rest may be in Korean
- ENGLISH SCORE (one): TOEFL iBT 3.5 (59 for tests before 20 January 2026), IELTS 5.5, CEFR B2 or NEW TEPS 202. Only Global Culture Contents and Marine Biomedical Science take the English track
- You and both parents are foreign nationals (부(父)·모(母)가 모두 외국인인 외국인), or a foreign national or overseas Korean who finished all schooling, to university level, abroad. The English guide adds that dual Korean nationals cannot apply
- Master's and integrated: a bachelor's from a 4-year university (or expected). PhD: a master's (or expected). The Fall 2026 guide set August 2026 as the expected-degree date
- The English guide says GED, homeschooling and online learning do not count for international special admission. Students in Hanseo's bachelor's and master's link course cannot apply to the integrated course
- LANGUAGE (one of): TOPIK 3 (TOPIK 2 for arts and sports departments); 2 years or more of study at a school in Korea; 15 weeks or more of Korean at Hanseo's institute or a recognised institute, with the director's recommendation
- Without TOPIK 3 at entry you sign a pledge (서약서): the form (English guide) says you will take all Korean classes after admission and reach TOPIK 3 within one year of entry
- Selection: transcripts and documents, plus an interview if needed (in person in Korea, by phone from abroad), 100%. A total of 50 points or less fails. Any earlier major is accepted; prerequisites may be set
- Interview notices go up on the graduate site (정보광장, 공지사항); times differ by department and the date cannot be moved for personal reasons. Missing the interview fails you. Extra admissions are told by phone only; scores are not disclosed
- Course length: master's 4 semesters (2 years); integrated master's and PhD 8 semesters (4 years); PhD 6 semesters (3 years), but the Safety and Health PhD is 4 semesters (2 years)
- The integrated course awards a PhD only (no separate master's). Quitting it (asked for before the end of semester 2) still earns a master's if you meet the master's conditions
- The guide adds: a master's can be earned without a thesis by taking extra credits (this may differ by department or major), and courses may be run jointly with schools abroad
- FEES (Fall 2026 guide; Spring 2027 not printed): entrance fee 700,000 won; tuition PhD / master's: humanities 3,946,000 / 3,800,000; natural sciences 4,631,000 / 4,460,000; engineering, arts and sports 5,122,000 / 4,936,000
- Tuition period: none printed; the graduate notice of 2026-08-11 bills tuition each semester. Pay at Kookmin Bank to your own virtual account, in exact won, 09:00 to 16:00; no card, no instalments. Unpaid tuition cancels the admission
- SCHOLARSHIP: 40% of tuition at entry for international students whose parents are both foreign; none for flexible-semester courses or the 2-year PhD (see the scholarship)
- Places are not numbered ("Unlimited" in the English guide), and a department may admit no one. The application counts only once the fee is paid; apply once only. School, department or major can change only within the period
