Published by Honam University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.
What do I need?
- Application form with study plan (school form), a 3.5 x 4.5 cm photo taken within six months, passport copy and alien registration card copy (passport only if you have no card)
- University transcript and graduation (or expected) certificate; PhD adds the master's transcript and degree certificate; transfers add the graduate transcript
- Degrees from China: CHSI degree and diploma verification plus the diploma, degree certificate and transcript. Other foreign degrees: apostille or consular confirmation
- Language proof (TOPIK or another accepted certificate, still valid)
- Bank balance certificate in your name, or a parent's with the parents' ID copies and a notarised family relation certificate
THE BANK BALANCE AMOUNT IS NOT PRINTED in the graduate guide; it asks for a certificate in your or a parent's name, filed with the application.
Application fee 50,000 won (master's and PhD). Entrance fee 536,000 won, waived for international master's students; for a PhD only Honam graduates are exempt.
Tuition is paid at Gwangju Bank or by Alipay. Give up admission by 31 August 2026 for a full refund.
No dormitory price in the graduate guide. The office page gives about 1,200,000 to 1,500,000 won for 16 weeks in a 4-person room with meals (March 2024 basis).

All requirements
- Master's: a bachelor's (or graduation in August 2026) with GPA 3.0 of 4.5 or the department head's recommendation. PhD: a master's (or August 2026). Both parents foreign, and all schooling to university done abroad
- KOREAN, one of: TOPIK 4; KIIP stage 4 or a pre-test score of 81; King Sejong intermediate 2. Honam graduates and arts and sports applicants: TOPIK 3, KIIP 3 (pre-test 61) or King Sejong intermediate 1
- NO ENGLISH ROUTE: the guide accepts no TOEFL, IELTS or TEPS score and lists no English-taught department
- THE FALL 2026 GUIDE IS THE NEWEST: its rounds (9 to 24 June and 30 July to 4 August 2026) are closed and no Spring 2027 guide was posted on 1 October 2026. The schedule page also shows a third round, not marked foreign-only
- Selection: master's grades 60 plus interview 40; PhD undergraduate grades 30, graduate grades 30 and interview 40; evening school 70 plus 30. Video interviews are possible; missing the interview means failing
- CHINESE TRACK: Global Business and Media, Film and Performance (master's) run four terms a year and teach 100% in Chinese; applicants are selected by checking Chinese ability
- Below TOPIK 3 at entry you take 300 hours of Korean; below TOPIK 4 at graduation, 100 more hours. Transfers: at least one semester and six credits in the same or a similar field
- A previous degree in a different major is accepted, with make-up credits. International students take daytime classes, except in departments pre-approved for evening study
- Graduate School of Social Convergence: an evening school, in principle not for D-2 students; only its departments marked for international students have immigration pre-approval
