What do I need?
- Application form, statement of purpose up to 5,000 bytes and short answers, on KAIST's portal Apply
- Copy of your passport, with the number blanked out
- ID documents for both parents, numbers blanked out
- Certificate of family registration, or a birth certificate naming both parents
- Bachelor's degree certificate and transcripts, certified copies. A master's too if you hold one
- English test report, unless you qualify for the waiver
- CV
- Certificate of employment, only for work you list on the form
- Optional but strongly encouraged: up to two recommendation letters, sent by the recommenders
- Optional: awards, publications and other proof of excellence

IF ADMITTED you send apostilled or embassy-verified degrees and transcripts, by post or by hand.
Paying for yourself? KAIST says the visa needs a bank balance of USD 16,000 or more.
NO ENGLISH TEST if you are a citizen of, or took your degree in, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St Kitts, St Lucia, St Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago, the UK or the USA.
ALSO NO TEST if you are a citizen of one of these countries AND took your degree there in English, with a certificate of the medium of instruction: Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cook Islands, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Micronesia, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Niue, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, South Africa, South Sudan, Rwanda, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The fee is USD 80 and is not refunded. Nothing can be changed after you pay.

All requirements
- A bachelor's by the end of February 2027 for a master's or integrated programme, a master's for a PhD. It must be equivalent to a four-year Korean bachelor's
- No Korean citizenship, dual included. Applicants of Korean ethnicity meet extra conditions
- A statement of purpose and short answers, written on the online form, and a CV
- Recommendation letters are optional but strongly encouraged: up to two, uploaded by the recommenders by their own deadline
- Choose the KAIST Scholarship as your funding on the form to be considered: full tuition for four semesters of a master's, a monthly stipend and national health insurance
- Paying for yourself? KAIST says to budget about USD 16,000 a year, and the visa needs a bank balance of USD 16,000 or more
