What do I need?
- Online application, through Uway Apply Apply
- Statement of purpose and study plan, in English or Korean on KNU's form Form
- Recommendation letter from your prospective advisor, where your department requires it
- Degree or expected-graduation certificate from every university. A PhD applicant sends both degrees
- Official transcripts from every university
- Language score report from within two years of the deadline, or a TOPIK registration slip
- Copy of your passport photo page
- Alien registration card, front and back, if you live in Korea
- ID of you and both parents, and an official document showing their nationality and your relationship, notarised within six months
- Certificate of enrolment and transcript from a Korean language institute, only if you hold a D-4 visa in Korea while you apply
YOU UPLOAD ALL DOCUMENTS AS ONE PDF, in the listed order, when you apply by 30 October.
ORIGINALS FOLLOW by post or in person, 18 December 2026 to 19 February 2027. A photocopy of an apostille is refused. Any difference from your uploads can cancel admission.
The fee is 80,000 and is not refunded.
Nothing you send is returned.
Graduates of universities in one country named in the guide send national degree verification reports; everyone else an apostille or Korean consular verification.
Documents in any other language need a notarised Korean or English translation.

All requirements
- You and both parents hold non-Korean nationality. Dual nationals with Korean citizenship cannot apply
- Or you hold non-Korean nationality and did all of your schooling, from primary school to university, outside Korea
- A bachelor's degree, or one due before term, for a master's or combined master's and PhD; a master's for a PhD
- KOREAN IS THE MAIN TEACHING LANGUAGE. KNU says to ask your department about English-taught courses
- Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Robot and Smart System Engineering and Electronic and Electrical Engineering require a recommendation letter from your prospective advisor, on KNU's form
- Departments screen applicants from 18 to 27 November 2026
- If you pass: a bank balance of 16,000,000 won or more in your or a parent's name, issued within 30 days, sent 11 to 18 December. A scholarship certificate or your advisor's funding confirmation also counts
- Excellent KINGS: full first-semester tuition for about 40 new students, if you have TOPIK 6, TOEFL iBT 100 or IELTS 7.0, or a degree from a THE or QS top-500 university
- KINGS: departments recommend new students for a 100% or 50% tuition waiver, around 70 a semester
- You must provide proof of language proficiency, such as TOPIK 3 or higher or an approved English test score, or meet the native-speaker or no-score conditions.
