What do I need?
- Application form, filled in on the online system; self-introduction and study plan; personal data consent, signed by hand, scanned and uploaded
- Bachelor's graduation (or expected) certificate or degree certificate, and the university transcript. PhD applicants add the master's certificate and graduate transcript
- Degree verification: consular confirmation (Korean embassy in your country, or your embassy in Korea) or an apostille. Schools in China: a CDGDC or CHSI verification report
- Relation proof for you and your parents from a government body, issued within the last 6 months (Japan: family register; China: hukou; other countries: birth certificate)
- Chinese nationals whose hukou is separate from their parents' add the parents' hukou and a family relation certificate
- TOPIK score report where the department asks for it (under 2 years old, verifiable). Arts applicants: a portfolio as a PDF scan, or a performance file (mp4)
- Passport and ID; alien registration card if you are staying in Korea; one passport photo as a JPG, 3.5 x 4.5 cm, white background, taken within 6 months
- The ORIGINAL financial proof, posted to IALE after acceptance. Health certificate showing a TB test result and measles vaccination: upload a scan, or e-mail it after acceptance
- A recommendation from the head of your university and a certificate of employment: both only if a partner university recommended you (one remark in the table covers both lines)
- Finished a Korean language course in Korea? File the completion certificate by 14 August 2026 (Fall 2026 guide), and hand in the ORIGINAL proof of your final schooling
THE BANK BALANCE IS USD 12,000 OR MORE (USD 6,000 for Kunsan National University graduates), printed in US dollars: a bank certificate in your or a family member's name, issued within 1 month of the standard admission letter's issue date.
If the account is not yours, add the holder's employment certificate or similar proof. The undergraduate guide counts the month from the application date instead.
If a Kunsan professor invites and funds you, file the professor's financial support confirmation and related papers instead (the form is on the graduate admissions page).
When: the original is posted to IALE after acceptance. A certificate issued abroad goes in after acceptance; D-visa holders already in Korea file theirs at the August 2026 visa extension or change (Fall 2026 guide).
Application fee 50,000 won, sent in your own name to the school's Jeonbuk Bank account (printed in the guide) within the application period, or the application may be cancelled. No waiver is printed.
ENTRANCE FEE 178,000 WON, ONCE, ON TOP OF TUITION. The Korean guide's table header says it is included and its footnote says it is separate; the school's official 2026 fee table settles it: separate, first year only.
Results: round 1 came out on 16 June 2026 (the guide said 5 June); second additional round, late July 2026. Posted on the IALE site and e-mailed to admitted applicants only.
Tuition is paid at Jeonbuk Bank branches: round 1 on 28 to 30 July 2026, second additional round on 19 August 2026 (09:00 to 16:00).
The admission letter is issued only after you pay the first semester (or send the same amount to IALE) and file a copy of the degree verification. Applicants who are not Chinese nationals show the original right after arrival.
Dormitory, a semester, weekday meals included (dormitory office 2026 fee table). Second semester: 1,156,400 won in the school-run halls and Nuri-gwan; in Hwangnyong-gwan or Narae-gwan 1,236,200 won (double) or 1,615,200 won (single).
First semester of 2026 was higher: 1,218,600 won (school-run halls and Nuri-gwan); 1,303,700 won double or 1,708,000 won single (Hwangnyong-gwan or Narae-gwan). A Spring entrant pays the first-semester price. 2027 is not posted.
Weekend meals: 160,000 won more in the first semester, 140,000 won in the second. The graduate guide prints 1,156,400 won (weekday meals) and 1,356,400 won (with weekend meals) under a 2025 label, and about 1,200,000 won for a vacation.
Dormitory: no kitchen, and no meals are prepared to religious rules. In Nuri-gwan, Hwangnyong-gwan and Narae-gwan you also pay your room's utilities (a 200,000 won advance in the second semester of 2026).
The dormitory office notice of 10 July 2026 marks Nuri-gwan and Narae-gwan as women's halls and Hwangnyong-gwan as a men's hall. The guide says the hall or its canteen closes for about 3 weeks around Seollal, Chuseok and the school breaks.
After admission, ask your graduate school and department about the language test, the comprehensive exam, credits and the thesis, so graduation is not delayed (the guide's own advice).

All requirements
- You are a foreign national AND either both parents are foreign nationals, or you did primary, middle and high school abroad and university (or graduate school) in Korea or abroad. Korean nationals, dual nationals included, cannot apply
- Master's and integrated master's and PhD: a bachelor's from a 4-year university, held or expected. PhD: a master's, held or expected. Expected graduates had to hold the degree before 14 August 2026 (Fall 2026 guide) or lose the admission
- Degrees earned in China through lifelong-education routes (correspondence, internet, adult college, self-study exam) are not recognised; a review is possible with the diploma in the school head's name plus CHSI degree and study verification
- LANGUAGE: there is no school-wide minimum. Each department prints a RECOMMENDED requirement, from none to TOPIK 5, shown in brackets in the majors list. A TOPIK score must be under 2 years old and verifiable by NIIED
- Entering with TOPIK 3 or lower (arts and physical education: TOPIK 2 or lower) you take the IALE Korean course: one line of the guide says at least one quarter within 6 months, another says 300 hours. Ask the office which applies
- ENGLISH-TAUGHT STUDENTS (all graduate schools): English is checked at entry and 50% or more of the curriculum is taught in English. The guide does not name which departments teach this way; ask the department
- Preference there goes to one of: "TOEFL 530, CBT 197, IBT 71, IELTS 5.5, CEFR B2, TEPS 600 (NEW TEPS 326)" as printed; a student from a country where English is an official language; or a graduate of a school taught in English
- Students who miss that English standard must meet it within 1 year of entry. The TOEFL figures are on the old scales, copied as printed
- Selection: documents first. The department weighs your earlier degree grades, language ability and study plan, and may interview by phone or video. Missing an interview you were told about means a fail
- TRANSFERS: only departments marked "transfers accepted". Most credits recognised: master's 9 (enter semester 2); PhD 9 (semester 2) or 18 (semester 3); integrated 9, 18 or 27 (semester 2, 3 or 4)
- You may apply to a field different from your earlier degree. There is no conditional admission
- TO GRADUATE (rules from Spring 2025): GPA B (3.0) or higher, a foreign-language test, a comprehensive exam, a thesis, and Korean ability shown by one of: TOPIK 4, 25 weeks or more of Korean classes, or a thesis written and passed in English
- The foreign-language test is waived with one of: an official English score ("TOEFL 500/400, IELTS 5.5/4.0, TOEIC 650/550, TEPS 600/540", copied as printed); 25 weeks or more of Korean classes (TOPIK 4 also counts);
- or proof that you are a serving professor at a foreign university that the president of Kunsan National University recognises. Master's students do not sit the foreign-language test at all (guide footnote)
- General Graduate School: daytime classes; master's 4 semesters or more and 24 credits; PhD 4 semesters or more and 36 credits
- On the online form, say whether you want the dormitory and the Korean course; applicants in Korea enter their registration number and visa type. Cancelling the dormitory after arrival costs about 200,000 won (one month)
- THE FALL 2026 GUIDE IS THE NEWEST. Its rounds (11 to 15 May and 10 to 14 July 2026) are closed, a June additional round was announced without printed dates, and no Spring 2027 guide was posted on 12 October 2026
- Timing hint only: last year the Graduate School posted its Spring 2026 notice on 3 November 2025. That is not a Spring 2027 date; watch the IALE notice board and the Graduate School admission board
