What do I need?
- Application form and study plan, printed after applying online at studyinkorea.go.kr; one photo; passport copy
- Family proof (Chinese nationals: hukou copy or kinship certificate; others: birth or family relation certificate); ID copies of you and both parents
- Final school diploma or degree proof (apostille in member countries, otherwise a notarised English translation) and the final transcript
- Bank balance certificate in your own name, 10,000,000 won or more (in a parent's name, add a notarised family relation certificate); an employment or income certificate for each parent with company name, address and contact
- No D-4 needed (visa-free, short-term C-3-9, or another status in Korea): only the application and study plan, one photo, passport copy, final diploma (or enrolment certificate) copy, and ARC copy (or visa copy)
THE BANK BALANCE FOR D-4 IS 10,000,000 WON OR MORE (2026 brochure). The international office's Korean course page (undated, still showing a 2021 schedule) says 10,000 USD; the brochure is shown here.
Fees: 1,500,000 won a term including cultural activities; application fee 50,000 won, not refundable; textbooks bought separately, about 70,000 won a term. Transfer fees are yours, and exchange-rate shortfalls must be topped up.
Dormitory (2026 brochure): Bitsoljae public dormitory, two-person room, about 290,000 won a month plus a 100,000 won deposit, 6 months minimum, move-in in February and August only. The website says about 1,850,000 won for 6 months.
International House, four-person room: about 850,000 won for 3 months (institute page) or 823,500 won for 90 days (international office page). Neither page is dated.

All requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent. Apply online at studyinkorea.go.kr within the window; results by e-mail. 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, 200 hours a term
- Deadlines are earlier for the listed countries. 2027 TERMS: the Spring 2027 undergraduate guide (the newest) lists 25: Ghana, Nigeria, Nepal, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Iran, Egypt,
- India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Pakistan, Peru, the Philippines, Guinea, Mali, Ethiopia, Uganda, Cameroon. Nationals of listed countries may be interviewed after the document review
- WINTER 2026: the notice of 28 August 2026 (and the 2026 Korean brochure) lists 21: the Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Mongolia, Thailand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Iran,
- Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Ghana, Egypt, Peru, China. The website prints a third list of 26 (both lists together). If your country is on any list, apply by the earlier deadline or ask
- Steps: apply online and upload the papers; listed-country applicants need an interview and are told by e-mail; acceptance by e-mail; pay the fees; then post the original papers (Winter 2026 notice)
- Already in Korea with a status that does not need a D-4: the deadline is 3 weeks before the term starts
- D-4 minimum stay: not printed. The English brochure says D-4 is for applicants planning more than one term; the Korean brochure does not say. Ask the office
- Classes: weekdays 09:00 to 13:00 in the Spring 2027 guide. The 2026 brochure says 09:00 to 13:00 or 14:00 to 18:00, and the website puts beginners in the afternoon
- The brochure: finishing level 4 here leads to undergraduate entry (the Spring 2027 guide accepts level 3) and earns up to 6 liberal-arts credits. Course graduates get 50% off the first degree semester (70% or 80% with TOPIK 3 or 4)
- Grade awards (operating rules revised 10 December 2025) may be given: average 95 or more, 10% off the next term; 90 or more, 5%; on a teacher's or the director's recommendation, a set amount up to half the fee paid
- Kwangwoon international undergraduate and graduate students (exchange students too), enrolled or on leave, get 50% off the course fee (same rules). The scholarship page adds 50% off the next term with an 85 average for graduate students
- To pass a level: midterm and final average 70 or more and 80% attendance; below 80% attendance you repeat the level. A class of fewer than 10 may close (you move class or cancel)
- Refunds (same rules): full before the term; two thirds before a third of the hours; half before half; nothing after. Later terms paid in advance are refunded in full. Fees unpaid by the deadline count as withdrawal
- Visa extension (website): a Korean bank balance or overseas remittance of 5,000,000 won in your name, issued within 20 days (the balance cannot be withdrawn for a year), or for the first extension only the deposit proof sent before entry
- Extension also needs the next term fee receipt and a 60,000 won fee; under 70% attendance, a written reason (website)
