What do I need?

• Passport copy
• Original bank balance certificate, 8,000,000 won or more, in won or dollars. A parent's account needs a family relationship certificate too
• Original final graduation certificate, with an apostille or Korean consular confirmation
• Self-introduction with a study plan, in any format
• From Ghana, Nigeria, Nepal, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Iran, Egypt, India, Indonesia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Peru or the Philippines: add an apostilled full transcript, your birth certificate, your parents' job and income proof and their ID copies

ORIGINALS GO BY POST to the institute, room 504. Nothing is returned, so if your only original is one sheet, apostille a copy of it instead.

Apostilles and consular confirmations must be issued within six months of applying; the bank certificate within one month.

Insurance is compulsory unless you hold your own: about 120,000 for six months.

Applicants from one listed country follow a separate document list: a bank balance of 70,000 yuan or USD 10,000, frozen for four months, and a degree verification report.

Applicants from 21 countries the institute lists also send: an apostilled or consular-confirmed transcript for all semesters, a birth certificate, parents' employment and one year of income certificates, parents' ID, and proof of work or study if you graduated over six months ago.

Documents in any other language need a notarised translation, sent with the original.

• You finished high school. Foreigners and overseas Koreans can apply
• A D-4 language visa requires you to register for at least two terms at once
• For the D-4: a bank balance of 8,000,000 won or more in your or a parent's name, issued within one month of applying. Already on another visa: 4,000,000 won
• Places are first come, first served, and a term can close early
• Applicants from some regions and countries the institute names must email their regional contact BEFORE applying, to ask whether they can
• Tuition includes books and cultural activities. PNU degree students pay 30% less
• To complete a level you need 80% attendance and an average of 70
• Insurance is compulsory unless you already hold your own: about 120,000 won for six months, paid after the admission result
• Entered visa-free or on a tourist or other non-student visa? You can register only after the institute checks that your permitted stay covers the term
