Official figures from the source page on the date checked. Estimates are Waegook's. Unknown is shown as not published, never as zero.
What do I need?
- Application form; passport-size photos (three in the 2026 leaflet; the course page lists one and the FAQ two); a copy of your passport
- Letter of self-introduction and study plan
- School diploma and academic record, with an apostille or a Korean embassy certification: the course page asks this of everyone, the 2026 leaflet only for schooling in the countries it lists
- Bank deposit certificate. The amount differs by page: US $10,000 for 6 months or US $20,000 for 1 year (course page), US $10,000 (2026 leaflet), 10,000,000 won or more (FAQ). Ask the office which applies
- Tuberculosis test result, only if you plan to stay in the dormitory (2026 leaflet). The English course page lists a health certificate with no such limit
BANK BALANCE: the course page (undated, 2026 terms) prints US $10,000 for 6 months or US $20,000 for 1 year; the 2026 leaflet (posted 2 July 2026) prints US $10,000; the FAQ (undated) prints 10,000,000 won or more.
None of the three is dated newer than the others. Ask the office which one applies to you before you pay for a certificate.
Fees: 1,500,000 won a term of 3 months (the page prints 3,000,000 for 6 months, 4,500,000 for 9 and 6,000,000 for 12). Registration fee 100,000 won, not refundable. The 2026 leaflet adds insurance of 75,000 won for 6 months.
Dormitory: the course page and the leaflet print different rates, so ask the office. Course page (undated), 16 weeks: four-person 782,000 won; three-person 934,000; two-person 1,151,000 (Zion, Eden) or 1,378,000 (Salem, Peniel, New Start).
The course page adds a 100,000 won first-entry fee and a 10,000 won student council fee to the dormitory rate.
The 2026 leaflet prints 15-week rates instead: single 2,403,000 won; double 1,151,000; triple 865,000. Its single-room figure equals the old degree-student total, from before the fee change of the 2026-2 semester.
One cafeteria meal costs 5,000 won. Four-person and three-person rooms may not be available, and fees can differ in the summer and winter vacation periods (course page).
Refunds (application form posted 2 July 2026): only for a refused visa, going home, or illness or accident. Cancel a week before the term starts and all tuition comes back, but not the 100,000 won fee.
Later refunds, same form: 90% of tuition if you cancel within a week of the start (the English wording says within the seven days before it); 70% in weeks 1 and 2 of the term; 50% in weeks 3 and 4; nothing from week 5.

All requirements
- High school graduates or holders of an equal qualification (the school's FAQ, undated)
- A term is 10 weeks and 200 hours: four 50-minute periods a day, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 12:50 or 13:30 to 17:20. Level 1 and 2 classes may be placed in the afternoon. Six levels
- 2026 terms (course page, undated; dates may change): spring 9 March to 20 May; summer 5 June to 14 August; fall 7 September to 20 November; winter 7 December 2026 to 19 February 2027. No 2027 calendar is posted
- Application deadlines in the 2026 leaflet, printed with no year and no opening date: spring 20 January, summer 20 April, fall 20 July, winter 20 October. The leaflet says a deadline may vary, so confirm with the office
- Winter (7 December 2026 to 19 February 2027) is the only 2026 term still to start. NOT A CONFIRMED DEADLINE: the leaflet prints "October 20th" for winter with no year and says a deadline may vary. Ask korean@syu.ac.kr for the real date
- How to apply: scan your papers to PDF and e-mail them to korean@syu.ac.kr. The school screens them, sends an admission letter and an invoice, and sends the visa papers after you pay
- D-4: the leaflet says individual applicants must register for at least one year. The application form posted the same day (2 July 2026) says a D-4 visa needs at least 6 months of registration. Ask the office which applies
- BANK BALANCE, three figures on the school's own pages: the course page (2026 terms) prints US $10,000 for 6 months or US $20,000 for 1 year; the 2026 leaflet prints US $10,000; the FAQ prints 10,000,000 won or more
- None of the three is clearly the newest, so ask the office (korean@syu.ac.kr, +82-2-3399-3606) which applies before you get a certificate
- The FAQ adds that a parent's certificate needs proof of the relationship, and that a letter of guarantee (신원보증서) can stand in for the bank certificate
- The English course page adds that a parent's employment certificate or pay stub and a family relation certificate are needed only if your parents pay the tuition
- Your diploma and academic record need an apostille or a Korean embassy certification if you were schooled in one of these (the whole list in the leaflet): China, Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Mongolia, Thailand,
- Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Peru. For schooling in China: the higher education qualification report (中国高等教育学历认证报告) or an apostille
- The course page (undated) asks for the apostille or Korean embassy certification on the diploma and the academic record with no country list. If your country is not in the leaflet list, ask the office before you leave it out
- Course awards (course page and leaflet): by grades, 1st 125,000 won, 2nd 100,000 won, 3rd 80,000 won, with 90% attendance, an 85% grade and a teacher's recommendation; 50,000 won for 100% attendance
- Each term includes a textbook worth 75,000 won. Seventh-day Adventist church members get 30% off with documents (course page, undated)
- Sahmyook degree link (Spring 2027 undergraduate guide): a year or more on this course earns 30% of one semester's tuition, and completers may show a bank balance of 10,000,000 won for a degree
- Level 3 or higher completed at a Korean university's language institute is one of the Korean routes into a Sahmyook degree (some majors ask for level 2, 4 or 5)
