What can I study?

Published by Seoul National University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.

What do I need?

• Application form, typed into the online system Apply
• Self-introduction and study plan, up to 3,000 bytes each, about 600 English words
• Two recommendation letters from two different people, submitted online by them
• Proof of Korean or English, or official proof your whole degree was taught in Korean or English
• Bachelor's graduation or degree certificate, and a master's for a PhD
• Transcripts showing every semester
• Passport copies for you and both parents
• A document showing your relationship to both parents, such as a birth certificate
• Optional: other language scores, awards and scholarships, a thesis abstract

NOTHING GOES BY POST TO APPLY. Scans are uploaded, one file per item, 8 MB each. Originals go by post only after a preliminary offer.

A document missing at the deadline disqualifies you. Nothing can be added later.

The 90,000 fee is paid online and cannot be refunded.

If you have never studied at a Korean school, tick SNU's graduate scholarship (GSFS) on the form: up to two years of tuition and a living allowance.

Some units need TOPIK whatever you hold: level 6 for Business Administration and Art Management, level 5 for Design.

Documents in any other language go with a notarised translation, uploaded alongside.

All requirements

• You and both parents hold foreign nationality. If any of you was Korean, it had to be given up before 9 July 2026
• A GED, homeschooling or cyber study is NOT accepted
• Chosen mainly on your documents: grades, aptitude for the subject, language and activities. A department can also ask you for an interview or a test. SNU publishes no quota and no applicant numbers
• A bachelor's by 28 February 2027 for a master's, a master's for a PhD. An overseas degree awarded in March 2027 counts if the course ends by February
• Higher education credentials or certificates earned outside the conventional education system are not accepted.
• Your transcript must show grades for all semesters or quarters of each academic year.
• If your final semester or year is not finished, you may submit the most recent transcript.
• If your nationality certificate or ID card is not in English, provide a notarized translation.
• If you or a parent do not meet the nationality rule, a second track (Type II) is open to people who did all their schooling, from primary school to the bachelor's, outside Korea
