What can I study?

Published by Sogang University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.

What do I need?

• Essay on GSIS's form, up to two pages Forms
• Diploma or expected-graduation certificate, apostilled or consular-authenticated
• Official transcripts, apostilled or consular-authenticated, converted to a 4.0, 4.3, 4.5, 5.0 or 100-point scale if yours is different
• English test report taken within two years (TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC or New TEPS), unless exempt
• Colour copies of your passport and both parents' passports, valid when you apply (or a nationality certificate or ID card showing nationality, not a driving licence)
• Consent form for degree verification, on GSIS's form
• PhD: one sealed recommendation letter on GSIS's form, and a research writing sample. Master's: one letter, optional
• Degrees from one country named in the guide: a national verification report
• Birth certificate or family relationship certificate, issued within one year, apostilled or consular-authenticated. Some nationalities add a household register, see the guide
• Single-parent family, a parent who has died, or divorced parents: proof of nationality only for the parent or guardian with parental authority, plus a statement explaining why and papers that support it
• You or a parent ever held Korean nationality: papers proving it was given up or lost
• Overseas Koreans who studied entirely abroad: graduation certificates and transcripts for every school level, plus your complete lifetime record of entering and leaving Korea

SPRING 2027: online 20 to 30 October 2026; document results 13 November; interview 28 November (in English, on Zoom if you are abroad); final results 18 December (tentative); orientation 25 February 2027.

SCANS TO APPLY: everything is uploaded to the portal. The recommender emails the letter from an institutional address, or it goes sealed by post.

IF ADMITTED every original goes by post or by hand, apostilled, by the deadline GSIS gives with the final results. Miss it and the admission is cancelled.

The Certificate of Admission for the D-2 visa (expected mid to late January 2027) comes after your originals, tuition and bank certificate are confirmed. The bank certificate must be issued after 1 January 2027.

The fee is 90,000 won or USD 90, by bank transfer, and is not refunded.

Certificates not in English need a notarised English translation.

BANK BALANCE: 10,000,000 won if you come straight from Sogang's Korean language centre (KLEC) or a Sogang undergraduate degree; 20,000,000 won for everyone else. Issued within 30 days before your visa application.

All requirements

• A bachelor's degree for the master's, a master's for the PhD, awarded at least two months before the semester starts
• Any undergraduate major may apply
• You and both parents hold foreign citizenship, or you studied abroad from elementary school to university
• Document screening, then an interview in English. From outside Korea it can be on Zoom
• New students can get 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% off first-semester tuition, set by the admissions committee on the admission result
• From the second semester, scholarships follow your GPA: at least 9 credits and 3.5 out of 4.3 (4.0 for a PhD)
• An English test score is needed, but there is no minimum score. Native speakers and graduates of universities in English-speaking countries or taught only in English are exempt
