What do I need?
- Application form; self-introduction and study plan; a recommendation from a professor at your university and an admission recommendation from a professor in the department you apply to (school forms, originals)
- Personal data, academic record check and pledge forms; a health self-check form; two photos 3.5 x 4.5 cm; national health insurance card copy if you have one
- Nationality: family relation certificate, your passport copy, parents' passports or IDs (Chinese nationals: notarised hukou, plus a notarised kinship certificate if it does not list the whole family); ARC copy if you have one
- Degree certificate and transcript (bachelor's for master's and integrated, master's for PhD) with apostille or consular confirmation (China: CHSI English degree verification); language score
- Study-cost pledge (Attachment 8) and bank balance certificate. Full-schooling-abroad applicants add school records and the immigration record; research-scholarship applicants add Attachments 9 and 10-1 to 10-3
THE BANK BALANCE IS 16,000,000 WON OR MORE in your or a parent's name, in Korean or English, filed WITH the application. Fall 2026: issued in May 2026 or later (June for the additional round), money held 6 months or more when you apply.
Research-scholarship applicants whose expected support is below living costs (about 12,000,000 won a year) must show the gap in their own or a parent's name.
Application fee: master's 60,000 won or USD 55; PhD and integrated 70,000 won or USD 65. Overseas transfers in dollars, you pay the bank charges and e-mail the receipt. Not refunded.
Entrance fee 850,000 won, once, on the first bill (waived with TOPIK 4 at application). Tuition is paid at any Shinhan Bank branch; scholarships are taken off the bill. 2026 rates.
Figures here are the international guide's. The graduate school's own 2026 tuition table prints the humanities master's rate as 4,894,000 and swaps the PhD and integrated rates in every band. Ask the Global Support Team which applies.
Dormitory (Hakseongsa): 569,000 won per 4 months (a semester) plus a 10,000 won deposit; free for research scholars except the deposit.
If a parent has died or the parents are divorced, add the death or divorce certificate. An English-issued family relation certificate needs no notarisation.
Expected graduates must file the final degree certificate and a transcript with the last semester before classes start, or the admission can be cancelled.

- THE FALL 2026 GUIDES ARE THE NEWEST (posted 7 May and 18 June 2026, both closed). No Spring 2027 graduate guide was posted by 5 October 2026; last year it came on 7 November
- A graduate board notice (12 June 2026) says the Spring 2027 application runs in early November 2026, with exact dates in a guide to come, and papers going in person or by post
- You and both parents hold no Korean nationality, or you are a foreigner who did the full 16 years (primary school to university) abroad. Korean dual nationals cannot apply
- If you took foreign nationality later, you can apply only if you took it before entering primary school (with proof)
- Master's and integrated course: a bachelor's degree; PhD: a master's degree (expected August 2026 graduates could apply). Degrees through China's self-study exam or an overseas equivalency exam are not accepted
- KOREAN, one of: TOPIK 3 or higher (TOPIK 3 entrants must file TOPIK 4 before graduation); KIIP (the Ministry of Justice integration programme) pre-test 61 or level 3; King Sejong intermediate 1 (local institute only, not online)
- ENGLISH instead, English-track applicants only (Biomedical Convergence, International Development Cooperation): TOEFL iBT 59 (new band 3.5), IELTS 5.5, CEFR B2 or New TEPS 202
- No score needed if you graduated in Korean language abroad, hold a Korean degree, studied for your degree in an English-speaking country or at an English-taught school (English track), or have a study-ability letter from your supervisor
- With the supervisor letter you must reach TOPIK 4 or the English standard before thesis review. Everyone needs TOPIK 4 before thesis review, except Biomedical Convergence and International Development Cooperation
- Department rules: Korean Language and Culture TOPIK 6; Nursing TOPIK 5, TEPS 600 or IELTS 5.5 plus a nursing licence; Education Science's youth education and youth counselling majors need TOPIK 4 and have no integrated course
- Industry-research cooperative programmes need a recommendation from the head of the partner institute
- Selection: document review; departments may interview in person, by video or by phone. Papers go in person or by post only and must ARRIVE within the period
