What can I study?

Published by Tongmyong University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.

What do I need?

• Application form, personal-information consent and personal statement (forms 1-1, 1-1A, 1-1B)
• Passport copy and three colour passport photos (3.5 x 4.5 cm, white background, within six months); alien registration card if you have one
• D-4 language students in Korea: the institute's final attendance, grades and completion certificate
• Both parents' passports or IDs (notarised English translation unless in English or Chinese) and a family relationship or birth certificate (China: hukou or kinship certificate)
• TOPIK, IELTS, TOEFL or TEPS score copy if you have one
• High school graduation (or expected) certificate and transcript with authentication: apostille or Korean consulate; China: CHSI or CDGDC report in English plus a notarised transcript. Transfers add the university certificate and transcript
• Bank balance certificate

THE BANK BALANCE IS USD 12,000 OR 16,000,000 WON in your or a parent's name (siblings excluded; parents are the only guarantors), issued within 30 days of applying (six months if it carries a validity period) and valid until the semester starts. In Korea: 16,000,000 in your own name at a Korean bank, issued in the application window. Graduates of Tongmyong's Korean course: 8,000,000.

Application fee 70,000 won, paid online on Uway; not refundable.

On the tuition invoice: insurance 250,000 won a year; dormitory about 1,900,000 won for six months with two weekday meals (optional; arrange with the officer before paying); the Korean course if required. After arrival: alien registration 35,000 won.

All requirements

• You and BOTH parents are foreign nationals; dual nationals cannot apply. You graduated (or will) from a school equal to or above Korean high school; final certificates by 22 February 2027
• KOREAN TRACK: TOPIK 3, or your Korean judged in an interview. Admitted without the level, you take the university Korean course (two semesters, 1,200,000 won, on the invoice). TOPIK 4 to graduate (3 in engineering, arts and PE)
• ENGLISH TRACK (Busan International College only): IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 80 (PBT 550), TEPS 600 or EF SET B2; or proof your last school taught fully in English; partner-university students may be interviewed without a score
• A score must be valid past 2 March 2027; a certificate without an expiry counts for two years from the test
• Selection is 100% on documents; an interview (in person or Zoom) is added when needed. No quota per department
• Freshmen only: Maritime Economics and Finance, K-Beauty (bilingual, foreigners only), Marine IT Engineering, Marine Defense Industry Engineering. Transfers only: Port and Logistics Management (2+2 curriculum for partner universities)
• Transfers: year 2 after one year at a four-year university, year 3 after two years, year 4 for graduates of a foreign three-year programme in the same field; consult the International Affairs Team first
• The COA comes only after tuition and the originals; apply for the visa within seven days of receiving it. No visa before 2 March or no entry within three weeks after it cancels the admission
