Published by Wonkwang University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.

What do I need?

• Application form printed after the online application at uwayapply.com (photo 3.5 x 4.5 cm uploaded); study plan on the graduate school's form, written by you in Korean or English
• Graduation (or expected) certificate and degree certificate, original and copy: bachelor's for master's and integrated applicants, master's for PhD applicants. The degree must be shown
• Full transcript, copy, showing the GPA and its maximum; transfer students send the transcripts from before and after the transfer
• Degree recognition for a degree earned abroad. China: CHSI verification. USA: an accredited-university confirmation from the Korean-American Educational Commission. Japan: a seal certificate from the embassy consular section
• Other routes: a report under the Ministry of Justice guideline; consular verification; an overseas educational institution certificate (재외교육기관확인서) from the Korean mission there; or an apostille. Not needed for a degree from Korea
• Passport copy; alien registration card copy if you hold one; Korean language papers if you hold them; translator's confirmation (school form) and a copy of the translator's ID when a paper is translated
• Plastic Arts (조형미술학과): a PPT of your work as a PDF by e-mail. Design (디자인학과): an A3 portfolio as a PDF by e-mail. The guide prints the address for each
• North Korean defector applicants add the defector registration confirmation and an education confirmation, issued by the resettlement officer of their city, county or district office
• Bank balance certificate, 16,000,000 won or more: handed in AFTER you pass

THE BANK BALANCE IS 16,000,000 WON OR MORE, in your own name, issued within 1 month. It is handed in after you pass, when tuition is paid, to the Office of International Affairs. Two originals are issued: keep one.

A certificate from a Chinese bank must stay valid (deposit frozen) for 3 months or more.

Application fee: master's 100,000 won, PhD 120,000 won, integrated course 100,000 won. Not refunded after the application period ends. No waiver is printed.

Entrance fee 640,000 won, once, a separate line from tuition. It is not returned if you withdraw after the semester starts.

Master's tuition a semester (2026 table; 2027 may change): humanities and social 3,897,000; science and physical education 4,674,750; engineering, arts, pharmacy, oriental pharmacy and nursing 5,453,000; medicine 7,077,000.

PhD tuition a semester: humanities and social 4,404,500; science and physical education 5,342,000; engineering, arts, pharmacy and nursing 6,000,000 (this band's name leaves out oriental pharmacy); medicine 7,409,750.

Expected graduates must hand in the graduation certificate before entry, or the pass is cancelled. A missing degree recognition paper must also be handed in before entry, or admission is cancelled.

A paper that cannot be issued again (a degree certificate, for example) is handed in as a copy: papers are not returned, and the guide says the school is not responsible for an original that is lost or damaged.

Print the application after the online step, sign or seal it, and stick the printed list of papers on the outside of the envelope.

Dormitory cost is not printed in the graduate guide. The Fall 2026 undergraduate guide prints 809,000 won a semester for a two-person room, meals separate (2026 rate).

All requirements

• One of (the guide prints the law): a North Korean defector; a foreigner whose parents are both foreigners; or an overseas Korean or foreigner who completed all schooling abroad equal to Korean primary, secondary and university education
• If your parents hold dual nationality you cannot apply on the foreigner track. Current students of this graduate school cannot apply (only after withdrawing)
• Master's and integrated course: a bachelor's degree from a Korean or foreign university, held or expected in August 2026, or an equal qualification by law. PhD: a master's degree on the same terms. Any earlier major may apply
• If your earlier degree was in a different department or major, or the department finds you need them, you must take the prerequisite courses the department sets on top of the regular ones
• NO LANGUAGE SCORE IS REQUIRED to apply: the interview checks whether you can communicate in Korean. The guide prints no TOEFL, IELTS or TEPS requirement and names no department that accepts English
• TO GRADUATE, one of: TOPIK 3 or higher; a pass in the school's own test (WKU-TOPIK); or 2 terms (20 weeks) or more at the school's Korean language centre. The last two must be met after you enter the course
• Korean score papers are handed in only if you hold them, and the score must have been earned in the 2 years before you apply
• Selection: document review, then an oral (written) test and interview. GKS scholars follow a separate process. No quota limit per department, but an applicant whose study or language ability is clearly lacking may not be selected
• The selection schedule is posted on the graduate school site (wgs.wku.ac.kr). For the oral test and interview bring ID (passport or similar) and whatever the department asks for. Results are posted on the same site with no individual notice
• A submitted application cannot be changed or cancelled, and the fee and papers are not returned. Get your visa in time to enter Korea before the semester starts: admission can be cancelled if the visa is not issued
• NO NEW D-2 VISA IS NEEDED (the guide's list) for: Wonkwang's own expected graduates, who hand in extension papers after entry; holders of A-1 to A-3, D-1, D-5 to D-9, E-1 to E-7, F-1 to F-6, G-1-6 or H-2 status; and GKS scholars
• Each department is marked for master's, PhD and integrated course; a level that is not marked does not recruit. The lists below give the levels for every department
• TUITION BANDS: the guide prints band names only (humanities and social; science and physical education; engineering, arts, pharmacy, oriental pharmacy and nursing; medicine) and no list of which department is in which
• The band on each row is OUR READING of the field headings in the guide's department table, not a statement in the guide. Confirm your band with the graduate office before you pay: +82-63-850-5117 to 5119
• Integrated course: semesters 1 to 4 follow the master's fee and semesters 5 to 8 the PhD fee. New students cannot pay by card. Admission is cancelled if tuition is not paid in the window
• FALL 2026 GUIDE (Korean only; no English version is posted; dates may change). Both rounds have passed. The Spring 2027 guide is not posted yet (checked 12 October 2026)
• Health insurance: you join the National Health Insurance from alien registration and pay a monthly premium; before that you need private insurance. Unpaid premiums can limit a visa extension. Questions: Office of International Affairs
