What can I study?

Published by Yonsei University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.

What do I need?

• Online application on Jinhak Apply, with your name exactly as on your passport
• Personal statement and study plan, in English, three pages at most
• Bachelor's diploma, or a letter of expected graduation with the exact date, and your transcript
• A GPA conversion if your grades are not on a 4.0, 4.3, 4.5 or 100 scale
• Proof of English
• Copies of your passport and both parents' passports or photo IDs, and your residence card if you live in Korea
• Birth certificate or another document proving your family relationship
• Release of Student Information form, if your university is outside Korea
• Two recommendation letters, emailed by the recommenders themselves to [email protected]
• PhD applicants: master's diploma and transcript, research proposal and writing sample

EVERYTHING IS UPLOADED to apply, by 17:00 KST on 2 October. Originals go by post or in person only if you are accepted, between 14 December and 2 February.

The fee is 100,000 won, paid on Jinhak Apply.

If accepted: an original bank statement of at least 23,000,000 won, issued within 30 days, for the D-2 visa. A sponsor who is not a parent needs a sponsorship letter.

If accepted: apostilles on your diploma and transcript, or Korean embassy verification outside the Hague Convention. Without them Yonsei cannot issue the visa certificate.

All requirements

• You and both parents are not Korean citizens. Ethnic Koreans prove, by the deadline, that they gave up Korean citizenship and when they took the new one
• A bachelor's before 1 March 2027 for a master's or the combined degree, and a master's for a PhD. Japanese universities: by 31 March
• English is also waived if you finished high school or university in English. Otherwise you may send a waiver request, which GSIS may refuse
• Judged on your record, your qualifications and your passion for the field. GSIS may call you to an interview
• PhD applicants add a research proposal of at least 3 pages and a writing sample of at least 40
• Global Studies students pick International Cooperation or International Trade, Finance and Management after the first semester
• Master's applicants may also apply to the Chinese-taught Global Citizenship and Cooperation track, with a separate application
