What can I study?

Published by Yonsei University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.

What do I need?

• Application form, printed after you apply online
• Study-period record listing every primary, middle and high school you attended, on Yonsei's form
• Self-introduction, on Yonsei's form
• High school diploma, or expected-graduation certificate, with an apostille or consular confirmation
• Transcripts for every semester of high school, with an apostille or consular confirmation
• Copies of your passport and both parents' passports
• Your birth certificate, or another document showing your relationship to both parents
• Proof of Korean or English: a test report, a standardised exam with a Korean or English score, a Korean course certificate, or an official letter that your school taught in Korean or English
• Optional: middle school transcripts, awards, certificates, a school profile
• If you studied in Korea, submit your school record report.
• If you cannot submit the school record report, submit transcripts for every grade and semester.
• If you studied in one country named in the guide, add its national transcript verification report in English.
• If you did not take HUIKAO, submit an official confirmation of non-implementation from the school or education authority.
• If your school has more than one course type, submit a certificate showing the course you actually completed.
• Applicants of one nationality named in the guide add a notarised household register for themselves and their parents.
• Applicants of another nationality named in the guide add a full family register transcript.
• If you live in Korea, submit alien registration or domestic residence proof for you and your parents.
• If you once had Korean nationality, submit documents proving you and your parents have renounced Korean nationality.

EVERYTHING GOES BY POST. You apply online, then print the form and send it with your papers by registered or express mail, by 17:00 on 30 September.

Write your application number at the top right of every page.

If you are admitted: a bank balance of at least 22,000,000 won in your name or a parent's, for the visa certificate. The issue date is announced with the results.

The fee is 200,000, or 230,000 for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy, and is not refunded once paid.

Papers in any other language need a notarised Korean or English translation. A translation you made yourself is not accepted.

All requirements

• You and both parents are foreign nationals on the day you apply. Dual Korean nationality in any of you makes you ineligible
• You finish high school by February 2027, or by March 2027 for schools in the one country the guide names
• A GED, homeschooling or cyber study is NOT accepted
• Any proof of Korean or English will do to apply. There is no minimum score
• THE DEGREE IS TAUGHT IN KOREAN. You need TOPIK 3 to enter your major after year one, and TOPIK 4 to graduate
• Year one is spent in the Global Basic Education Division on the Songdo International Campus, on that division's tuition
• Judged 100% on your documents, with no interview
• Yonsei is a Christian foundation: every student takes set Christian courses and chapel
• You may apply to this track and to the Global Talent Division track at the same time, one unit in each
• Your language-proof document must still be valid on the application deadline.
• You must mail your language-proof document by the document submission deadline.
• If you were adopted and later got foreign nationality, you can apply only if you got it before elementary school.
• You and both parents must have become foreign nationals before you started an education course equivalent to Korean high school.
• Whether overseas high school graduation is accepted depends on the country's school system and semester structure.
