What can I study?

Published by Kangwon National University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.

What do I need?

• Application form, filled in online in Korean or English and printed; name exactly as on the passport (Form 1). Transfers add a self-introduction and study plan, 4,000 bytes per item (Form 2)
• Freshmen: high school graduation (or expected) certificate with an apostille or consular confirmation, and the high school transcript. School record only if you graduated from a Korean high school
• Transfers: university graduation or completion certificate with an apostille or consular confirmation, and a transcript with credits per year and a GPA on 4.5 or percentiles
• Schooling in China: a CHSI verification report instead (rules for vocational and technical schools printed in the guide)
• Language proof: TOPIK 3 or higher valid after 2 March 2027, Kangwon's Korean course level 4 certificate, King Sejong or KIIP papers, or the pledge (Form 3)
• Passport copy valid 6 months past entry; alien registration card copy, front and back, if you live in Korea
• Your parents' ID cards or passports (proof of foreign nationality), with a notarised translation if not in English
• Family relationship certificate or birth certificate showing you and your parents, issued within 6 months; death or divorce papers if needed
• Financial proof: your own bank balance certificate, or one parent's with the financial guarantee (Form 4). See the notes

BANK BALANCE 16,000,000 WON OR MORE, yours or one parent's (with Form 4), Korean or English, kept through the visa period, issued within 30 days. In Korea: a Korean bank in your own name.

Expected graduates of Kangwon's Korean language school: 8,000,000 won or more in a bank in Korea.

Rules printed for named countries, copied whole: "우즈베키스탄에 거주하는 우즈베키스탄 국적자의 경우 우즈베키스탄 현지 KDB 은행 잔고증명서만 제출 가능"; "중국 국적자의 경우 최소 30일 이상 동결기간(유효기간) 필수".

In English: residents of Uzbekistan who hold its nationality file only a certificate from KDB Bank in Uzbekistan; Chinese nationals need funds frozen for at least 30 days.

Also printed: "우즈베키스탄 국적 학생은 해외 출국 시 사용 가능한 '국제여권' 제출" and "중국 지원자: 가족 전체 호구부 혹은 친족관계증명서 제출".

Application fee 50,000 won, every field, paid on the application site. It is never waived or refunded.

Results 24 December 2026 on the website, no individual notice. Tuition 28 December 2026 to 4 January 2027; no split payment. Admission letter 29 December to 26 February, after tuition and all originals.

Expected graduates file the final apostilled or consular-confirmed diploma papers (China: CHSI) by 19 February 2027 18:00 KST, or the admission is cancelled.

Dormitory: every foreign freshman who asks gets a room; tick the box on the application. Gangneung, 2-person rooms: upkeep 1,115,500 + meals 604,200 won a semester (4 months, 2026 second semester).

Wonju, no meals: 737,100 to 1,770,210 won a semester (4 months) by hall and room type. Rates may change. Holiday stays need a separate application. Dormitory phones: Gangneung +82-33-640-2645, Wonju +82-33-760-8101.

Accident insurance from the day you arrive is compulsory, and National Health Insurance applies by law. Phones: scholarships +82-33-640-1595; tuition +82-33-640-2061.

ONLINE: the application site works only in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome on Windows. Upload one PDF per item, up to 8MB; a file that cannot be opened counts as not submitted.

Certificates must show the study period or the graduation year and month, and the school name and seal must match on diploma and transcript (if not, add a letter from the school). Papers are not returned.

REFUNDS: tuition is refunded if you give up before the entry date for a legal reason or your visa is refused. Give up before the entry date for a full refund; after entry, a reduced refund by days of class.

No health check is held. The guide warns that facilities for students with disabilities may be lacking: ask before you apply.

All requirements

• GANGNEUNG AND WONJU CAMPUSES: the former Gangneung-Wonju National University, part of Kangwon National University since 1 March 2026. They share one guide, separate from Chuncheon and Samcheok
• You and both parents hold foreign nationality, all taken before high-school-level study. No dual nationals, but one may be admitted on condition of giving up one nationality before the term starts (checked then, or admission is cancelled)
• FRESHMEN: all schooling up to Korean high school level, graduated or graduating. School-leaving exams (검정고시), homeschooling and cyber learning are not accepted
• TRANSFERS (year 3 only): 2 years or 4 semesters at a 4-year university with the credits it recognises, or a junior college graduate (February 2027 included). No credits on the transcript, no application
• KOREAN (one of): TOPIK 3 valid after 2 March 2027; level 4 class of Kangwon's Korean course; KIIP level 3 or a pre-test score of 61; King Sejong Institute Intermediate 1 (local institute, not online)
• NO ENGLISH ROUTE for these departments: unlike Chuncheon and Samcheok, the Gangneung-Wonju guide accepts only Korean scores outside the Department of Global Convergence
• Entering through Kangwon's Korean course: the guide adds "졸업요건: TOPIK 4급 이상 취득" (TOPIK 4 needed to graduate)
• No score yet? Sign the pledge (Form 3): TOPIK by 10 December 2026, or Kangwon's Korean course certificate by 19 February 2027
• Selection: freshmen 100% on documents (a qualification check). Transfers: two department reviewers, pass or fail, 7 to 10 December. A talk in person or by phone may be held
• One application per intake, across all campuses: a later duplicate fails. One department only; no change or cancellation after the fee is paid
• Admitted to two or more universities? Register at only one: registering at more than one voids every admission
• TUITION a semester, 2026 rates: humanities and social 1,744,000; sciences and PE 2,104,000; engineering 2,308,000; Fashion 2,663,000; Fine Arts and Design 2,692,000; Music 2,721,000
• The guide does not say which department is in which band. Our rows place each college in the matching band; confirm with the finance office (+82-33-640-2061). No entrance fee line is printed
• Department names may change after entry; the guide prints a table of old and new names. Current or on-leave students of Kangwon cannot apply as transfers
• The 16 October 2026 notices say the 2027 guides were still being revised when posted. Before you apply, check the campus page for a newer guide file than the one cited here
