What can I study?

Published by Kangwon National University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.

What do I need?

• Application form (Form 1), with the English name exactly as on the passport. Tick "Agree" for the academic background check: the form says you must
• Freshmen: high school graduation (or expected) certificate with an apostille or consular confirmation, and the high school transcript. School record only if you graduated from a Korean high school
• Schooling in China: a CHSI report; secondary vocational schools add the school information form (Form 4). Technical schools: as printed in the guide
• Transfers: university graduation or completion certificate with an apostille or consular confirmation, and a transcript with credits per year and a GPA on 4.5 or percentiles
• Language proof: TOPIK, an English score, a Kangwon Korean course certificate, King Sejong or KIIP papers, or the pledge (Form 2)
• Passport copy; alien registration card copy if you live in Korea; your parents' ID cards or passports
• Government family relationship certificate (original or notarised original); death or divorce papers if needed
• Financial proof (may follow after acceptance): your own or a parent's bank balance certificate; a parent's needs the financial guarantee (Form 3). See the notes

BANK BALANCE about 16,000,000 won or more (about USD 13,000), original issued within 1 month, yours or a parent's (with Form 3; a sibling if both parents have died). Due 19 February 2027. In Korea: your own Korean account.

Rules printed for named countries, copied whole: "우즈베키스탄 국적자는 현지 KDB 은행 잔고증명서 제출" (p.70) and "우즈베키스탄의 경우 산업은행(KDB) 외화계좌만 가능" (p.71); "중국인 지원자는 최소 30일 이상 동결기간(유효기간) 필수"; "중국 지원자: 친족관계증명서 또는 가족 전체 호구부 1부".

In English: for Uzbekistan, only a KDB foreign-currency account; Chinese applicants need funds frozen at least 30 days, and file a kinship certificate or the whole-family hukou.

Korean course graduates and admitted students under the regional (광역형) visa get separate bank instructions.

Application fee 70,000 won (online fee included), paid on the application site. It is never waived or refunded.

Results 24 December 2026 on KNU GLOBAL. Tuition 28 December 2026 to 4 January 2027. Admission letter 29 December to 26 February, only for students applying for a visa abroad.

Expected graduates file the final apostilled or consular-confirmed diploma papers (China: CHSI) by 19 February 2027, or the admission is cancelled.

Dormitory, 2027 first semester, 2-person rooms, with meals and a 300,000 won deposit returned after the term: Samcheok 1,679,010 to 2,014,410 won; Dogye 1,741,610 to 1,929,870 won. Freshmen first, not guaranteed.

Accident insurance from the day you arrive is compulsory, and National Health Insurance applies by law.

UPLOADS: one PDF per item, up to 8MB; a file that cannot be opened counts as not submitted. Originals count only if they arrive by the deadline.

REFUNDS: tuition is refunded if you give up before the entry date for a legal reason or your visa is refused; apply to the Samcheok office. Before the entry date, a full refund; after entry, a reduced refund by days of class.

All requirements

• SAMCHEOK AND DOGYE CAMPUSES have their own guide, separate from Chuncheon and Gangneung-Wonju. Dogye houses health sciences, social welfare, early childhood education and fire and disaster prevention
• You and both parents hold foreign nationality, all taken before you began high-school-level study. Dual nationality is not accepted
• FRESHMEN: high school graduated or graduating. A foreign 검정고시 is not accepted; cyber or home study inside a regular school's full course is. Schooling in two or more countries must total 12 years or more
• TRANSFERS: year 2 (1 year and 33 credits), year 3 (2 years and 65 credits), or a junior college graduate; year 4 only with a 3-year associate degree from abroad. Current and on-leave Kangwon students cannot apply
• LANGUAGE (one of): TOPIK or TOPIK iBT 3 valid after 2 March 2027; Kangwon Korean course level 3 class; KIIP level 3 or 61 points, or King Sejong Intermediate 1 (in person, not online)
• or TOEFL iBT 71 (4.0), IELTS 5.5 (One Skill Retake accepted), New TEPS 327 or TOEIC 700, valid after 2 March 2027; or school in English in an English-native or English-official country (proof needed)
• Native-English countries as printed: 미국, 캐나다, 영국, 아일랜드, 호주, 뉴질랜드, 남아프리카공화국 (USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa)
• or TOPIK 2, or a pass in the Samcheok campus's own test: then TOPIK 3 within 1 year of entry, or 300 hours of Kangwon Korean classes (extracurricular classes may charge)
• No score yet? Sign the pledge (Form 2) and file the language proof by 19 February 2027
• Classes are in Korean; some sections for international students get an interpretation system, and some Samcheok-Dogye courses an AI simultaneous interpretation system
• Selection: documents only, a check of nationality, schooling, language and papers by the Samcheok Planning and Research Support Division, 7 to 10 December
• One application per intake, across all campuses: a later duplicate is excluded, and admission is void if found later
• TUITION a semester, 2026 rates (Tuition 1 + Tuition 2): humanities and social 1,797,000; natural sciences 2,205,000; engineering 2,328,000; arts 2,424,000; arts (PE) 2,328,000; free major 1,810,000 or 2,247,000. No entrance fee line
• The 16 October 2026 notices say the 2027 guides were still being revised when posted. Before you apply, check the campus page for a newer guide file than the one cited here
