Published by Kangwon National University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.
What do I need?
- Application form (Form 1) and self-introduction with study plan (Form 2, 4,000 bytes per item), in Korean or English. Tick "Agree" for the academic background check: the form says you must
- Bachelor's certificate (copy and translation) and transcript with a grade scale; PhD applicants add the master's certificate and transcript
- Language proof (one), or the pledge (Form 3), or the future adviser's excellent-researcher letter (Form 4)
- Recommendation from your dean or adviser (Form 6 or any format; working applicants may give a career certificate): required for PhD and integrated applicants, not for master's. See the notes
- Passport copy valid 6 months past entry; alien registration card copy if you live in Korea; your own and your parents' ID cards
- Government family relationship certificate with a translation, issued within 6 months (the guide's examples by country are in the notes; Kangwon graduates may skip it)
- Financial proof, admitted applicants only (Form 5 and a bank balance certificate). See the notes
BANK BALANCE 16,000,000 WON OR MORE (about USD 12,000), admitted applicants only, by 19 February 2027: yours or a guarantor's (one parent, or your adviser) with Form 5; original issued within 30 days. In Korea: your own Korean account.
Rules printed for named countries, copied whole: "우즈베키스탄에 거주하는 우즈베키스탄 국적자의 경우 우즈베키스탄 현지 KDB 산업은행 잔고증명서만 제출 가능"; "중국 국적자의 경우 최소 30일 이상 동결기간(유효기간) 필수".
In English: residents of Uzbekistan who hold its nationality file only a KDB Bank certificate from Uzbekistan; Chinese nationals need funds frozen at least 30 days. Uzbek and Russian nationals file the international passport.

Application fee 70,000 won (online fee included). It is never waived or refunded.
ENTRANCE FEE 178,000 WON, ONCE, inside the printed first-semester totals (humanities 2,539,000; sciences 3,136,000; engineering 3,263,000; arts 3,557,000).
Results 24 December 2026 18:00. Tuition 28 December 2026 to 4 January 2027, by WeChat Pay, PayPal or virtual account. Admission letter only for students applying for a visa abroad.
Expected graduates file the final degree papers by 19 February 2027; China CHSI reports must be valid to 31 March 2027.
Dormitory (2026 second semester), 2-person rooms with meals and a 300,000 won deposit: Samcheok 1,679,010 to 2,014,410 won; Dogye 1,741,610 to 1,929,870 won. Meals optional, 3,500 to 4,300 won each. Freshmen first, not guaranteed.
RECOMMENDATION LETTER: upload it, or the recommender e-mails it from a university address to applyknu@kangwon.ac.kr, subject "your 10-digit application number-Recommendation Letter", by 20 November 2026 17:00 (Korean time).
ONLINE: the application site works only in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome on Windows. Upload one PDF per item, up to 8MB; a file that cannot be opened counts as not submitted.
A degree from a Korean university needs no apostille: a copy of the degree certificate is enough. Final papers come sealed by the issuer, with your application number on the envelope.
REFUNDS: tuition is refunded if you give up before the entry date for a legal reason or your visa is refused; apply to the Samcheok office. Before entry, a full refund; after entry, less by days of class, and never the entrance fee.
Accident insurance from the day you arrive is compulsory, and National Health Insurance applies by law.

- SAMCHEOK AND DOGYE CAMPUSES have their own graduate guide, separate from Chuncheon and Gangneung-Wonju: master's, PhD and integrated master's and PhD
- You and both parents hold foreign nationality, all taken before you began high-school-level study. Dual nationality is not accepted
- Master's and integrated: a bachelor's (graduating counts). PhD: a master's. Degrees only from universities recognised by their own education ministry
- LANGUAGE (one of): TOPIK 3 valid after 2 March 2027; Kangwon Korean course level 4 class; KIIP level 3 or 61 points; King Sejong Intermediate 1 (local only)
- or TOEFL iBT 71 (New TOEFL iBT 4.0), IELTS Academic 5.5, TEPS 600 (New TEPS 327) or TOEIC 700, valid after 2 March 2027. TOEFL My Best Scores and Home Edition count, ITP does not; IELTS One Skill Retake counts
- EXEMPT: government and foreign-government scholars, arts and PE entrants, science and engineering entrants, and nationals of 미국, 영국, 호주, 캐나다, 뉴질랜드, 남아공, 아일랜드 (as printed)
- also exempt: nationals of an English-official country whose university study was in English (proof from the university), and applicants with a future adviser's excellent-researcher letter
- No score yet? Sign the pledge and file the proof by 19 February 2027. Language scholarships use only scores filed before the award is set. Everyone must meet the graduation language rule before the thesis review
- Selection: documents (grades, study plan, recommendation, aptitude, language); interviews if a department needs one, in person or by video. Three reviewers; two "very poor" marks fail
- Interviews use the phone number and e-mail you give when applying: they must be your own and cannot be changed later. If the department cannot reach you after 3 tries, you cannot be interviewed
- One application per intake, across all campuses: a later duplicate fails. No change or cancellation after the fee is paid
- TUITION, 2026 rates, a semester: the printed totals include a 178,000 entrance fee. The figure on each row is our own sum of Tuition 1 and Tuition 2; the entrance fee is a separate once-only line
- Teaching language is not printed in the graduate guide; the Samcheok undergraduate guide says Kangwon classes are taught in Korean. Ask the department
- The 16 October 2026 notices say the 2027 guides were still being revised when posted. Before you apply, check the campus page for a newer guide file than the one cited here
