Published by Kunsan National University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.
What do I need?
- Application form, filled in on the online system; self-introduction and study plan; personal data consent, signed by hand, scanned and uploaded
- Freshmen: high school graduation (or expected) certificate and transcript. Transfers: graduation (or expected) certificate and all-year transcript of the previous college or university
- Proof of schooling: consular confirmation (Korean embassy in your country, or your embassy in Korea) or an apostille. Schools in China: a CHSI report for general high schools; vocational high schools follow the guide's own two routes
- Family relation proof for you and your parents from a government body, issued within the last 6 months (Japan: family register; China: hukou; other countries: birth certificate)
- Chinese nationals whose hukou is separate from their parents' add the parents' hukou and a family relation certificate
- Passport and home-country ID; alien registration card if you are staying in Korea; one passport photo as a JPG, 3.5 x 4.5 cm, white background, taken within 6 months
- TOPIK score report if you have one (under 2 years old, verifiable). Arts applicants: a portfolio as a PDF scan, or a performance file (mp4)
- The ORIGINAL financial proof (bank balance certificate and so on), posted to IALE after acceptance. Health certificate showing a TB test result and measles vaccination: upload a scan, or e-mail it after acceptance
- A recommendation from the head of your university, only if a partner university recommended you
- Finished a Korean language course in Korea? File the completion certificate by 14 August 2026 (Fall 2026 guide), and hand in the ORIGINAL proof of your final schooling
THE BANK BALANCE IS USD 12,000 OR MORE (USD 6,000 for Kunsan National University graduates), printed in US dollars: a bank certificate in your or a family member's name, issued within 1 month of the application date.
If the account is not yours, add the holder's employment certificate or similar proof. The English guide counts the month from the admission letter date; the Korean text governs.
When: the original is posted to IALE after acceptance. A certificate issued abroad goes in after acceptance; D-visa holders already in Korea file theirs at the August 2026 visa extension or change (Fall 2026 guide).
Application fee 50,000 won, sent in your own name to the school's Jeonbuk Bank account (printed in the guide) within the application period, or the application may be cancelled. No waiver is printed.
NO ENTRANCE FEE for international undergraduates: the school's official 2026 fee table for international students prints none for any band, and the guide mentions none.
Results: round 1 came out on 16 June 2026 (the guide said 5 June); second additional round, late July 2026. Posted on the IALE site and e-mailed to admitted applicants only.
Tuition is paid at Jeonbuk Bank branches: round 1 on 28 to 30 July 2026, second additional round on 19 August 2026 (09:00 to 16:00).
The admission letter is issued only after you pay the first semester (or send the same amount to IALE) and file a copy of the schooling proof. Applicants who are not Chinese nationals show the original proof right after arrival.
Expected graduates hand in the diploma and its schooling proof by 14 August 2026, or the admission is cancelled (Fall 2026 guide).
Dormitory, a semester, weekday meals included (dormitory office 2026 fee table). Second semester: 1,156,400 won in the school-run halls and Nuri-gwan; in Hwangnyong-gwan or Narae-gwan 1,236,200 won (double) or 1,615,200 won (single).
First semester of 2026 was higher: 1,218,600 won (school-run halls and Nuri-gwan); 1,303,700 won double or 1,708,000 won single (Hwangnyong-gwan or Narae-gwan). A Spring entrant pays the first-semester price. 2027 is not posted.
Weekend lunch and dinner cost 160,000 won more in the first semester and 140,000 won more in the second. In Nuri-gwan, Hwangnyong-gwan and Narae-gwan you also pay your room's utilities (a 200,000 won advance in the second semester of 2026).
The dormitory office notice of 10 July 2026 marks Nuri-gwan and Narae-gwan as women's halls and Hwangnyong-gwan as a men's hall. Its second-semester price leaves out the 4 Chuseok holiday days, when the halls close.
This guide prints 1,236,200 won (weekday meals) and 1,376,200 won (weekends too) under a 2026 first-semester label; they equal the fee table's second-semester double room in Hwangnyong-gwan or Narae-gwan. Vacation stay: about 1,200,000 won.
Dormitory: room and meals are not billed separately, there is no kitchen, and no meals are prepared to religious rules. The guide says the hall or its canteen closes for about 3 weeks around Seollal, Chuseok and the school breaks.
Health insurance: the English guide says every international student joins National Health Insurance after alien registration, at about 70,000 to 140,000 won a month, adjusted yearly. The Korean guide prints no figure.
From the official guide. The school decides what it accepts, not Waegook.
All requirements
- You are a foreign national AND either both parents are foreign nationals, or you did all 12 or more years of primary, middle and high school abroad (whatever your parents' nationality). Korean and dual Korean nationals cannot apply
- FRESHMEN: high school graduates or expected graduates. School-leaving qualification exams (검정고시), homeschooling and cyber education are NOT accepted as schooling
- TRANSFERS enter year 3 (the Korean text; the English guide says junior or senior). You must meet the freshman rule and one of the three routes on the next line
- Transfer routes: 4 or more semesters at a four-year university with 65 or more credits; a finished 2 or 3-year college course with 65 or more credits; or a 5-year high school and college course (diplomas, transcripts, course confirmation)
- KOREAN: there is no school-wide TOPIK minimum. Each department prints a RECOMMENDED level, from TOPIK 2 to TOPIK 5, shown in brackets in the majors list. A TOPIK score must be under 2 years old and verifiable by NIIED
- Overseas Koreans living in China, Russia, the Americas or Central Asia: hours of a Korean course taken at NIIED may be recognised. No other TOPIK substitute is printed
- BELOW TOPIK 4 YOU STUDY KOREAN AFTER ENTRY. Freshmen with TOPIK 3: 10 Korean general-education courses in year 1 (8 basic, 2 core). Freshmen with TOPIK 2 or lower: the same, plus one quarter or more of the IALE Korean course within 6 months
- Transfers with TOPIK 3 or lower: at least one quarter of the IALE Korean course within 6 months, plus 3 basic Korean courses. Another line of the same guide says everyone entering with TOPIK 3 or lower takes one term; ask the office
- That Korean course costs degree students, for a 10-week term (200 hours), as printed: 975,000 won for students from China and Japan, 780,000 won for students from ODA countries. Ask the office which applies to you
- Selection: documents first. The department decides on your full school record and language ability, and may interview by phone or video; units marked "+ interview" do interview. Missing an interview you were told about means a fail
- There is NO conditional admission, and every application goes through the Institute of International Affairs and Language Education (IALE). The guide warns about wrong information from some agencies: ask the school directly
- ENGLISH: no English track and no English-taught unit is printed. One unit takes an English score: Mechanical Engineering, TOPIK 4 or "IBT80" (TOEFL iBT on the old 0 to 120 scale, copied as printed)
- TO GRADUATE you need TOPIK 4 (MCD majors included). TOPIK 3 is enough for arts and physical education units, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Marine Biology and the School of Software
- Undergraduates cannot take a leave of absence in their first semester (school rules, article 48)
- Units marked "freshmen only" take no transfers. For a unit not marked as open to transfers, check with the department before you enter
- Places: the table prints a number for some units (from 2 to 70) and "a suitable number" for the rest
- On the online form, say whether you want the dormitory and the Korean course; applicants in Korea enter their registration number and visa type. Cancelling the dormitory after arrival costs about 200,000 won (one month)
- THE FALL 2026 GUIDE IS THE NEWEST. Its rounds (11 to 15 May and 10 to 14 July 2026) are closed, a June additional round was announced without printed dates, and no Spring 2027 guide was posted on 12 October 2026
- Timing hint only: for Spring 2026, results came out on 28 November 2025 (round 1) and 30 December 2025 (round 2). These are last year's dates, not Spring 2027 dates; watch the IALE notice board
- The school's website menu already shows a 2027 list of colleges and departments that differs from this guide's table (other college names, some units renamed). Which units take international students in Spring 2027 is not printed yet
