What can I study?
- Education (research areas: educational psychology, lifelong education, educational administration, curriculum and teaching methods)
- Early Childhood Education
- Korean Education (국어교육학과): Korean language education (국어교육) and Korean as a foreign language education (한국어교육; a PhD needs TOPIK 6 from foreigners)
- Mathematics Education (4,264,000; PhD 4,557,000)
Published by Kyungnam University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.
What do I need?
- Application form (Form 1), self-introduction (Form 2) and study plan (Form 3), from www.kyungnam.ac.kr/grad. You must write the self-introduction and the study plan yourself
- A recommendation (Form 4) is optional, for when your home-university supervisor recommends you
- Graduation (or expected) certificate and transcript: master's applicants the bachelor's; PhD applicants the bachelor's and the master's. The transcript must show the score earned and the full score
- The graduation certificate must show the university's (or graduate school's) address and phone number
- Papers not in Korean or English: a translation with an apostille; from non-convention countries, a consular confirmation translated into Korean or English. Chinese nationals may also use www.cdgdc.edu.cn
- The graduation certificate itself: notarised in Korean or English in your country, then confirmed by a Korean consulate or by your embassy in Korea; from an Apostille Convention country an apostille may be attached instead
- Passport copy; alien registration card copy if you are staying in Korea; ID copies of you and both parents (divorce or death proof if it applies)
- Family relation proof, one of: a copy of the whole family's household register, a family register certificate, or a notarised family relation certificate
- Financial proof by one of three routes (see the notes); personal information consent and pledge (Form 5)
- A TOPIK 3 or higher score sheet, or the language ability confirmation (Form 6) the department writes after the oral exam
- One ID photo (3 x 4 cm, white background, your name in English on the back); the application fee; insurance for illness and injury: a copy of your certificate on entry if insured at home, otherwise compulsory enrolment at admission
- Culture Contents (master's): a portfolio, handed to the department on the interview day; it is not returned
- Music: a practical test on the pieces the guide sets for each area (p.6); composition applicants hand in their own scores and recordings, and arts administration applicants a portfolio, on the test day
- Music applicants living abroad (printed as 현지 거주자) send these with the application instead: a video of the set pieces (DVD, USB or a YouTube address), the scores and recordings, or the portfolio
THE BANK BALANCE IS 16,000,000 WON OR MORE (printed as 1,600만원), in your own or a parent's name, filed with the application. If you are staying in Korea, only a Korean bank's certificate counts. No issue-date limit is printed.
Or your supervisor guarantees you: a bank certificate of 16,000,000 won or more in the professor's name, plus the professor's certificate of employment.
Or a scholarship or wage certificate from the inviting institution and the principal investigator (professor), accepted only if tuition, living costs and wages reach 16,000,000 won or more in total for 1 year.
The Spring 2026 guide asked for the balance to be held 3 months or more and for a separate guarantor pledge form; the Fall 2026 guide prints neither. Ask the office before you prepare the certificate.
Application fee: master's 50,000 won (40 US dollars); PhD and combined course 60,000 won (50 US dollars), by transfer to the graduate school's Kyongnam Bank account printed in the guide.
Filed papers and the fee are not returned or refunded; no waiver is printed.
Entrance fee 600,000 won, once, in every field. Tuition is on the 2026 semester 1 basis and may change with school policy.
Tuition a semester, master's then PhD: humanities and social 3,707,000 and 3,918,000; science and physical education 4,264,000 and 4,557,000; engineering and arts 4,934,000 and 5,279,000. Global Business Administration MBA 6,000,000.
Fall 2026 dates: oral exam 19 June; results 3 July on the graduate school website, with no individual notice; registration 21 to 23 July by 16:00 at any Kyongnam Bank branch, or the admission is cancelled.
Expected graduates had to file the final degree certificate and final transcript by 20 August 2026.
The Graduate School notice of 10 July 2026 adds: scholarships were chosen from the papers filed with the application. Admitted students checked their award from 10 to 14 July and printed the bill from 16 to 23 July.
Same notice: the semester opened on 1 September 2026. Once it has opened you can no longer give up the place (only take leave or withdraw), and the entrance fee is not refunded.
National health insurance is compulsory for international students; this guide puts it at about 600,000 won a year (the undergraduate guide says about 950,000 won). No dormitory cost is printed in the graduate guide.
Graduate school office: Changjo-gwan 2nd floor, +82-55-249-2807 or 2808, ha00@kyungnam.ac.kr.

All requirements
- Both parents hold foreign nationality; or you are an overseas Korean or a foreigner who did all schooling equal to Korean primary, secondary and university education abroad
- Master's and combined course: a bachelor's degree, held or expected, from a university in Korea or abroad. PhD: a master's degree, held or expected. For Fall 2026 an expected degree had to be awarded by August 2026
- Not accepted as foreign: dual nationals and stateless persons (nationality is judged by the passport). If your parents divorced, remarried or died, add papers such as a birth certificate
- LANGUAGE, at least one: TOPIK 3 or higher, OR a language ability confirmation (Form 6) from your prospective supervisor or the department's chief professor, which the department writes after the oral exam
- No English test is named: the guide prints no TOEFL, IELTS or TEPS score and no department that takes English instead of Korean. The only route without TOPIK is the professor's confirmation form
- A language score sheet must still be valid on the application deadline
- To graduate: TOPIK 4 (TOPIK 3 for arts and physical education), or the intermediate class or higher at the school's Korean language education centre
- Korean as a foreign language education (한국어교육), PhD: you need a Korean teacher certificate (grade 2) or a master's in a related field, and foreigners must prove TOPIK 6 or higher
- Nursing: nurse licence holders only. Physical Therapy: graduates of the same major or physical therapist licence holders only
- A different undergraduate major is allowed if the department accepts your ability; you may then have to take extra courses after entry
- An applicant whose language ability is judged too weak to study is refused. After arrival the department may test your Korean again and send you to the courses the undergraduate school runs for international students
- Selection: documents 80 points (university grades; for a PhD, 40 for university and 40 for graduate grades) plus an oral exam or practical test, 120 points
- Pass line: documents 48 or more AND oral exam or practical 72 or more. Missing the exam is a fail
- Fall 2026 oral exam: 19 June 2026 from 09:30, at the place each department set. If you cannot enter Korea because of the visa, or live abroad, it may be a video interview
- The combined master's and PhD course is open only where marked. The tuition table has master's and PhD columns only, so no combined-course rate is printed
- Where to hand in: the foreign applicants' guide says the International Exchange Team of the Office of International Services (Changjo-gwan 1st floor). The notice for general admission names the graduate school office instead
- A student absent 30 days or more in a semester, or who breaks immigration law, may be expelled after review
- FALL 2026 GUIDE (posted 30 April 2026). The Spring 2027 guide was not posted on 12 October 2026; last year the Spring guide came on 17 October. The one Fall 2026 round is over. Dates, fees and departments may differ for Spring 2027
