What can I study?

Published by Sangmyung University. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.

What do I need?

• Application form and study and research plan, typed on the application site; PhD applicants add a master's thesis summary
• Master's: bachelor's transcript and graduation (or expected) certificate. PhD: bachelor's and master's transcripts and certificates. Korean universities: papers from an internet certificate service, issued within 1 month
• Universities outside China: apostille or consular confirmation (originals after admission, certified within 6 months), record-check consent, and one of: WHED listing printout, embassy "인가대학 확인서", consulate "재외교육확인서"
• Universities in China: CHSI degree or education report and CHSI transcript in English (expected graduates: an apostilled transcript)
• Passport copy; alien registration card copy if you live in Korea; parents' passport copies (or ID copies) as proof of foreign nationality; parents' death or divorce papers if relevant
• Family relation proof for you and your parents (birth certificate, family register or relation certificate; Chinese nationals: a notarised relation certificate or hukou with you and both parents on it)
• Bank balance certificate (see notes), or for outside-scholarship holders a certificate that the scholarship will be paid (covering tuition and living costs); TOPIK 3+ report or King Sejong intermediate 2 certificate if you have one
• Portfolio departments upload a zip (1.5 GB at most) from 9 to 13 November 2026 on the Graduate School site (see the majors list)

BANK BALANCE $20,000 OR MORE, as printed ("$20,000 이상"; both guides show only the $ sign, no won figure), from a bank, in your or a financial sponsor's name, issued within 30 days of applying. A sponsor's certificate needs proof of your relation to them.

Application fee 100,000 won; 130,000 won for Fine Arts, Living Art, Music, New Media Music, Music Technology, Design, Photography and Visual Media, Cartoon and Animation, AR and VR Media Design and Advanced Art Convergence.

The fee is refunded only in the cases the law lists; missing the oral exam for personal reasons gets no refund.

ENTRANCE FEE 1,039,000 WON, ONCE, on top of the first semester's tuition (guide table "입학금 및 수업료 안내"). One table covers both campuses and every degree level; its tuition and entrance fee are 2026 figures and may change.

Payment: first-round admits 6 to 11 January 2027; additional admits 21 to 22 January 2027. The way to pay is posted with the result.

No graduate dormitory is printed in the guide.

All requirements

• TUITION LINE NOT MAPPED: the table prints 예능 (arts) 7,398,000 and 체육 (physical education) 6,339,000 and names no department under either; these departments read as the 예능 line
• Application fee 130,000 won for every department on this row (the guide's practical-exam and portfolio departments)
• Master's and integrated master's and PhD: a bachelor's degree (or one due by February 2027) or a legal equivalent; any earlier major. PhD: a master's degree (or one due by February 2027)
• You are a foreign national and BOTH parents are foreign nationals. Nursing (Cheonan) takes nurse licence holders only
• KOREAN: TOPIK 3 or King Sejong Institute intermediate 2 (세종학당 중급 2). Without it you may still apply, but the oral exam may test your Korean and after entry you must take 200 hours of Korean the Graduate School names, at your own cost
• Embassies and immigration may ask for TOPIK proof for the visa or a change of status, so check with them before applying (the guide's advice). No TOEFL, IELTS or TEPS route is printed
• Selection out of 100: documents 30 (study and research plan, transcripts, PhD: thesis summary) + oral exam or practical exam 70. Face-to-face or online exam (Zoom, Webex, Google Meet), chosen when you apply
• Exam details and places are posted on the Graduate School site on 19 November 2026. Music students from Sangmyung's bachelor-master link skip the practical exam
• Degree lengths: master's 2 years (4 semesters), PhD 2 years (4 semesters), integrated master's and PhD 4 years (8 semesters). Places: a small number (약간 명) on each campus
• One graduate school covers both campuses (대학원(서울) and 대학원(천안)): you choose the campus and department on the form. Transfers are recruited separately in December
• Results only on the Graduate School site (no message). Unpaid tuition by the deadline cancels the admission; places left go to the next candidates by phone (18 January 2027)
