What can I study?
- Landscape Architecture
- Environmental Horticulture
- Physics
- Life Science
- Applied Chemistry (supervisor first)
- Statistical Data Science (doctoral applicants confirm a supervisor before applying)
Published by University of Seoul. Which of these a scholarship covers is decided by the school.
What do I need?
- Applicant document checklist and application form, printed after you apply online and pay the fee; self-introduction and study plan (school form), in Korean or English
- Bachelor's degree (or expected) certificate and transcript for all years (if you transferred, transcripts from before and after). Doctoral applicants add the master's degree (or expected) certificate and full transcript
- Proof standard for degree papers: Korean university, originals; other countries, original with apostille or consular confirmation
- Chinese universities: a CHSI degree verification in English; for the transcript, an apostilled original or a CHSI transcript verification in English
- Consent to an academic record check (school form); recommendation letter (school form) from a professor of your last school, in Korean or English
- Language document meeting one of the ten printed conditions, valid on the online closing date
- Passport copy; alien registration card copy, front and back, if held; proof of nationality for you and both parents (ID or passport copy; Chinese nationals: ID cards and passport copies)
- Family relation certificate for you and both parents, government-issued, with a notarised translation (Chinese nationals: kinship certificate or household register, one of the two)
- Chinese nationals, as printed: the household register is accepted only when one parent is its head and the whole family is on that single register. If a parent has no passport copy, add a notarised translation of the Chinese ID card
- Parents divorced or deceased, or a single-parent family: add proof of it with a notarised translation
- ALL-SCHOOLING-ABROAD APPLICANTS add: graduation certificates and transcripts for primary, middle and high school abroad, and a certificate of entry and exit from your date of birth to the first day of online application
- All-schooling-abroad applicants file the family relation certificate only if a parent's bank certificate is used. Architecture, Music, Sculpture and Formative Arts and Design: the extra material the department asks for
- AFTER FINAL ADMISSION ONLY: the financial guarantee form (school form) and an original bank balance certificate
THE BANK BALANCE IS 20,000,000 WON OR MORE (another currency counts at the rate on the issue date), in your or a parent's name, handed in AFTER final admission with the school's financial guarantee form.
Spring 2027 admits: a certificate issued on or after 1 January 2027, handed in 4 to 15 January 2027. Fall 2027 admits: issued on or after 1 July 2027, handed in 1 to 9 July 2027.
If both parents have died, a sibling's certificate is accepted. A certificate from a bank in China must be issued within 6 months of hand-in and stay frozen until 31 March 2027 (Spring) or 30 September 2027 (Fall).
Bank certificate exemption as the graduate part prints it, worded for associate and bachelor's students: 6 years or more of unbroken legal stay in Korea plus a Korean middle or high school diploma. Ask the office if it covers you.
Application fee 80,000 won, paid online. Full refund for the university's fault, a natural disaster, or your hospital stay or death; 20,000 won back if you are rejected before the department review or fail the document stage.
Entrance fee 184,000 won, once, every department, on top of tuition. Both are 2026 first-semester rates; 2027 is not printed. No combined first-semester figure is printed.
Tuition is paid 11 to 15 January 2027 (Spring) or 28 June to 2 July 2027 (Fall) into a Woori Bank virtual account.
Expected graduates hand in the final degree certificate and transcript as soon as they are issued: by 15 January 2027 (Spring) or 16 July 2027 (Fall). If your graduation is later, tell the office first.
Even after you pass and enrol, admission can be cancelled if the bank certificate or the final degree papers are not handed in.
After final admission the school may check your record with your last school, using your consent form. If no reply comes within 6 months you must contact that school yourself; admission can be cancelled if the record cannot be confirmed.
A bank certificate not in Korean or English needs a notarised Korean or English translation. A translation you made yourself is not accepted for any paper.
Your English name must be spelled as in your passport on every paper, and the school name and graduation date on the application form must match your papers. File the papers in the order of the checklist.
Scan your language proof and upload it inside the online application by the online closing date; the paper itself is handed in with the rest.
Standard admission letter 18 to 27 January 2027 (Spring) or 12 to 21 July 2027 (Fall). Orientation late February or late August 2027. The class start date is not printed.
Dormitory (2026 first-semester rates): Residence Hall, two- or three-person room, 764,000 won a semester; International House, your own room in a shared unit of 2 to 5, 1,120,000 won. Admitted graduate students get priority for 1 semester.
Work scholarships (graduate school page, undated): teaching-support and research-support awards, full or half tuition or a fixed sum, are pay for helping a professor's teaching or research. Apply through the department office.

All requirements
- ELIGIBILITY, one of two: (1) you and both parents hold foreign nationality on the first day of the application period; or (2) an overseas Korean or foreigner who did ALL schooling from primary school to a bachelor's degree abroad
- Under (1), a former dual national counts only if you and both parents had all lost Korean nationality by the first day of the application period
- Under (2), anyone who did any one of those stages at a Korean school abroad is excluded. Degrees count only from universities formally approved by that country's education ministry
- MASTER'S: a bachelor's degree, held or due before the entry date, or an equal qualification under the law. DOCTORATE: a master's degree on the same terms. This guide is for the full-time General Graduate School only
- KOREAN, any department, one of (held or expected): TOPIK 3 (paper or IBT); University of Seoul Korean Language Education Center level 3; level 4 of the regular course at the Korean institute of an IEQAS-certified university
- Also accepted: the NIIED course for overseas Koreans (intermediate or advanced); a Korea-related major at a foreign university (graduated or expected); a degree from a university or graduate school in Korea (held or expected)
- Also accepted: King Sejong Institute intermediate course or higher (local certificate only, not online); Social Integration Programme (KIIP) pre-test 61 points or higher, or stage 3 or higher completed
- ENGLISH ROUTE, only in the departments listed below, exactly as printed: TOEFL iBT 71 or higher, IELTS 5.5 or higher, or TEPS 327 or higher. The guide prints the TOEFL bar as iBT 71 only, with no figure on the new 1 to 6 scale
- PROFESSOR ROUTE, same departments: a recommendation for a foreign graduate student written by a full-time professor of the department you apply to. Contact the professor and get agreement BEFORE you apply online
- Departments that take the English or professor route in place of Korean (whole list as printed). Humanities and social: International Urban Development. Natural sciences: Landscape Architecture, Environmental Horticulture, Physics,
- Life Science, Applied Chemistry, Statistical Data Science. Engineering: Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Urban Planning and Design,
- Transportation Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical and Information Engineering, Architecture, Geo-Informatics, Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Smart Cities.
- Arts and sports: Formative Arts and Design, Music, Sports Science. Every other department needs one of the Korean routes. Intelligent Semiconductor is marked "some classes in English" but is not on the list, so it needs a Korean route
- Result still pending: apply with the test ticket or enrolment certificate and send the score or certificate by 21 October 2026, 18:00 (Spring) or 12 May 2027, 18:00 (Fall), or you fail
- Selection: document review, then an oral exam for those who pass it (27 October 2026 for Spring, 18 May 2027 for Fall), run by each department. Face to face in principle; applicants abroad are interviewed remotely. Missing it means a fail
- Oral exam or practical test day: each department sets the time and place and tells you individually. Bring photo ID and be at the place at least 20 minutes before the start
- Architecture, Music, Sculpture and Formative Arts and Design: documents plus a practical test or in-depth interview. Architecture: a portfolio. Music: a music bachelor's or equal (any major for the Musical major) and the practical test form
- Music test pieces by major are on PDF p.42 of the guide. Bring your own accompanist on the day; an accompaniment recording (MR) is sent in with your papers and declared on the practical test form
- Sculpture: a four-year art degree and a portfolio. Formative Arts and Design: an art master's degree, the thesis with a summary, and a portfolio (A4, about 10 pages)
- Departments marked "supervisor first" in the lists: talk to a professor in your research field and confirm they will supervise you before you apply. The guide advises every engineering applicant to do the same
- CLASS LANGUAGE as marked in the guide: all classes in English in International Urban Development (doctorate only); some classes in English in Urban Administration, Business Administration, English Language and Literature,
- Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Smart Cities and Intelligent Semiconductor; Korean in every other department
- Not recruiting: the Law master's, Disaster Science and Urban Big Data Convergence. Mathematics, Statistics and Energy and Environmental System Engineering are in the tuition table but not in the list of recruiting departments
- No fixed quota: students are selected outside the quota. The Korean guide prevails over its translations, and the schedule may change
- Spring 2027 online applications ended on 23 September 2026 (final results 13 November). The next window is Fall 2027: 8 March to 1 April 2027
- If your visa comes late and you cannot enter Korea before the entry date, the admission can be cancelled and the admission letter loses its effect
